Ever since I’ve gotten back from IowaDIY I’ve had the fever to build some DIY speakers. So while I’m building my normal commercial stuff I built/finished a few DIY speakers.

This has been my ongoing bookshelf open baffle project. It’s coming to a close. I’m very happy so far with the results.

You really should move the Lpad to after a highpass (notch?) to reduce thermal stress on the resistors, or split them to series before and parallel resistor after the highpass. This or increase their power handling or add a series highpass cap before the Lpad.

There’s a 80mfd cap before the l-pad just not pictured. Moving the notch makes a mess of the FR so that’s staying.

I know common knowledge says move the resistors after the filter. Other than the heat I have never heard an arguement for moving it after. Going by the data sheets the resistors should be fine in their wattage range and should be the lowest distortion component in the crossover. I have a hard time finding any solid data on capacitors being used in higher voltage vs lower voltage when being used for crossover compinents. Inductors are not a hard science so there won’t be much hard data. We know they store power in the magnetic field-less power, less field, less distortion.

I would love to see some data that is contridictory. If it truely is that we are trying to keep the heat out then we really just need to start stacking resistors.

I’m also way to stubborn for “just trust me bro”.
