That looks great!
I’ve used cheap shellac and cheap poly to seal MDF’s end gain with good results. My wife almost shot me the last time I used a lacquer based product in our garage lol.
Its stinky, but my shop is in a spot that it won’t bleed into the house.
I’m jealous!
I recently saw that General Finishes has a water based Lacquer. I think I’m going to try it in the spring.
What was technique to shave the veneer overhang and not damage paint? At first thought maybe those Japanese (wrong name) flat saws. In past I would often lay veneer first and then mask off and do painting. Heat glue method?
If you mean Kevin Kendrick’s method;
He used a spiral rotozip/dremel bit in an air powered setup and just lightly grazed the edge. A minor sanding and he was done. There was a video over on PETT with regard to his Gandalfs line array build.
I use a razor blade flush to the surface to score the back side of the veneer and then break it. I then go back and sand the edge. I found I am more accurate that way then with a router. On these I repainted once the veneer was complete.
Dude!! Hell yeah🤘🏼
Nice work those look great! I have a question about your Wiim setup. Do you notice its output signal is lower than your other equipment? I was using it as a premap/dac and didn’t notice it but I tried using just as in input (RCA) to my preamp and its very quiet even at 100% volume compared to say my TV output or Oppo. Like usually 20-26 on my preamp is loud for TV and oppo but I need like 50-60 % to get the same level with the wiim.
I have not noticed that. It seems about the same as my cd player when the wiim is at 100%.
I know there are some settings for max output level on the Pro and maybe even the Mini. I think it’s set at 2v by default.
