Yes, that is the PB I use. A lot of times they have a stack of 4 footers for $2.99 which are sometimes on sale for $1!!! Just have to grab a tape measure and make sure you get what you want. They aren’t always 11.5" wide, some boards are 11.25".
I use a fairly new (sharp) Diablo 60 tooth fine finish blade from Home Depot. The PB pushes through like butter!
For sure! It’s sort of therapeutic for me. It’s nice to have a saw that you don’t have to fight with to get excellent results. I remember the days with my cheap saw that caused way more stress than peace!
My son helped me pack the kitty litter into the side tubes this morning. I had a great shot of him pouring it in with the dollar store funnel but he refused to let me to post him. Anyway, we weighed them on our digital bathroom scale empty and then filled to the brim (shaken to insure no empty areas). +5 pounds each!!! That doesn’t sound like a lot of added mass but I can tell you that rapping on the enclosures with a piece of wood produced night and day differences. How does this objectively and subjectively improve the sound? I don’t have any measured data. But it certainly can’t make them sound worse. And it only cost ~$4 in kitty litter.
Filled with kitty litter and holes plugged with hot melt glue. The tops and bottoms will be capped with some pretty hardword pieces so the hot glue doen’t have to do all the work!
Let’s not derail Craig’s thread, but yes, I’m about to build a round backed cabinet with inside/outside layers and [something for mass] in between. I’ll thread it when it happens.
I had some time after work today to slop on several coats of cheap shellac. The only issues I have so far is with the Liquid Nails adheasive I used to glue the tubes onto the baffles. The regular old TiteBond 2 wood glue and Gorilla glue are holding like a champ. Mental note to self, don’t use Liquid Nails constuction adheasive ever again.
Funny you say that, as this is not the first time I’ve heard bad things about Liquid Nails adhesive. I suppose there has to be a situation where it is a good bonding agent, or it would not be a successful brand, however, I’ve yet to see or experience that result.
Glad the repair is holding fast for you. Did you have to refill the mass?
I’m going to try and dribble some water in the bad spots then use a tiny syringe I have to inject some Gorilla glue and clamp it up tight. I think the Gorilla glue will stick to just about anything.
