I’m looking for monitors for my computer for editing on the cheap. Any ideas for commercial or DIY under $200.
Maybe JBL 305P MkII.
Not sure if you can find a pair for $200.
We have a “Boston Acoustics Digital Music Theatre” system, which consists of two 3” full range speakers with the 10 watts RMS amp and 5” subwoofer in a separate cabinet, it sounds just fine for computer work, flight sims and editing music. Lacks top end ‘sparkle’ even though the specs say otherwise. It plugs into the sound card out on the PC.
It’s around 20 years old but still works fine and was $250 when new, so you might be able to pick one up second hand.

You could consider the Micca MB42X G2 speakers. They tested very well at ASR (review LINK) so I bought a pair on a whim. I was pleasantly surprised at how well they sound for 4 inch woofers. Amazon has them for $120 a pair. Hard to go wrong.
I’m using the Chachos as my desktop PC speakers. They are decently small and sound great. $156 with custom crossover board or $125.Here is my PC setup. I can’t believe this little fosi $70 2.1 amp can power the sub too. It’s not super loud but totally fine for near field listening. It has tone controls for treble and bass so I can tweak it for being close to the wall. I could use an extra 1-2 feet of desktop for sure.
I have a pair of 28” stands next to my desk, so I usually run larger bookshelves for my PC. Currently it is the curved cabinets I brought to Iowa, but usually I am running somewhat larger.
Let us know how the Edifier are - I have looked at them many times since I really enjoy dissecting commercial speakers.
