From post 7:
Those are cheap enough, I could get and test the 6kv8. Wonder if there is a large enough demand to get the initial purchase back? If they are anything like the Ukrainian 6j1p, IIRC, about 30% will yield a good matching pair, 50% won’t match each other but still good tubes, and 20% will be junk.
It seems the tubes for well established circuits shoot up in price.. The less known/used tubes remain cheaper. The butter zone seems to be in tubes that have capability to do the job and there are transformers currently available that will work with them, but have yet to be supported by a well known circuit.
Posted in the wrong place. Moved to the udder thread.
uuh… What?
Oops, that was supposed to go in the µtracer thread …
Going to take a while but on the way. Some 6n23p and ecc88 which should cross to 6dj8. The 6j1p and ilk are used in a lot of the small preamps.
Looking at the ecc88. I had got it wrong earlier. Quad e88c or ecc88 or 6dj8. As per Google AI they are supposed to be equivalent.
Are you planning to test all the tubes in your tube tester?
As I research tubes I’m finding alot of the russian variants put the filament pins right next to each other. If keeping simple AC filament voltage that should help prevent creating induction loops to the rest of the pins.
Any interest in these tubes. Can get them fairly cheap but shipping will probably be around +6weeks.
6p14p
or the 6n2p
the 6n1p or 6n23p
Depending on the price I might be interested in 8 of those. If the price is really right I’d probably buy 16. Edit: I’m only interested in the 6p14p (EL84 equiv), not the others.
If I could get an equivalent to a 12ax7 + EL84 amp out of em I’m interested in those tubes. Different pinout is not an issue for me as It’d be new build/s anyway.

What could this be in the strange animal printed box labeled with Slavic letters?
Cigars?
Nope. Box full of Voskhod 6j1p/6ak5/6n23p. Not the best packaging for the trip across the pond. I expect some are confetti.
How many in that box? Weren’t those originally manufactured for the Russian military?
Supposed to be 100in the box. Mix of 6j1p and 6n23p Russian, equivalent to 6ak5 and 6dj8.
Did they all make the trip in one piece?
Haven’t unwrapped more than the first cigar. Right now I don’t have a safe place to put them. Gotta think of something that can safely hold them for a while so I can look them over, test em’, order boxes, and box them.
Wedge foam? 2" stuff might have big enough gaps to fill with tubes then stack another layer on top. They sell in sheets or packs of precut sections. Use leftover to line speakers or room treatment. ![]()
