I figured these could get some love here. I’ve been using these crates as makeshift stands at the InDIYana events. They also have been carrying my VersaBox cabs to keep them nice with an inserted yoga mat liner and foam inner bottom.
I almost have one completely done as shown.
Both crates are painted and dry. I gave both crates and poplar 2x2 a good sand with 150 grit and laid on hammered black then gloss black on the crates. Used up 2 stray paint cans I had on hand.
I will need about 3 more sticks of 2x2 to finish both stands than what i currently have. This is as shown 4 sticks plus scrap for the 3 crossmembers. 8 total crossmembers are planned for each.
I call them “Crate-Stands”, and are built for larger taller bookshelves/stand-mounts like my Pangolins. Insert damping or vinyl albums or whatever in the crates if needed.
Walmart carries these crates, and they are relatively inexpensive. 18 x 12.5 x 9.5
They also still work as tow n go for my VersaBox cabs, but now are even more useful.
Yay… was pondering if would bring my similar height, cant remember if 16 or 18, that had for my Acoustic Energy AE3’s (sitting in basement) that were made from 3 4x4 solid composite decking post (heavy) and boos block footer, sssh, dont tell my wife where that went, camouflaged by duratex - it was not well taken care of spendy cutting block. Hell that was almost 20 years ago now. But like the AE3’s, the stands very heavy and prefer not to lug them anywhere.
Them like those crates from Menards? where one thinks gonna fit records in them then like doh.
My entry 32 tall, though intending to have tweet right in middle so was fine with just standing tall on 24 stands - will see.
Plus you have them rotatable for extra chubby eggs.
