Don't Forget the TAG!

When making new topics, don’t forget the tag field at the top please. These help forum navigation later

I tried adding one, and it said not found when I tried to.

Huh, by default, the settings only allow tag creation by level 3 or higher. Fixed, everyone can now create tags.

Any guidelines for tags? We use tags in ADO, and it’s to be pretty mess unless well defined and controlled.

I’ll have to consider our approach, looking at the tags created for the last forum, there was just a lot of basic category types: subwoofer, 3-way, etc. And then some brand tags like dayton, SB acoustics, etc. With a random DSP, . It doesn’t seem very much a mess to me, but it was not used much either.

It’ll have to be moderated for sure, and I’m actually considering asking some of the more active people here if they will accept moderator status. Maybe that’ll help.

I created a tag for my post about Linux on Surface devices. Pretty straightforward.

So here is what I am going to do: I am going to edit the current posts with some ‘common tags’ that fit, and then I’ll make a post we can pin from the sidebar with the common tags all defined.

I’m thinking about starting a new thread to continue the “Jigs, gizmos & useful stuff” thread from the old forum. I have a new DIY gizmo that I would like to share, as soon as I get it finished and then take some photos. But the list of potential “tags” is vast.
I put together a gizmo listing from the old thread:

  • Rectangular terminal cup router jigs
  • Circle cutting router base jigs
  • Router bushing sets
  • Driver flushing trimming fixtures
  • Appliance dollies
  • Drilling guides
  • DIY circular saw track guides
  • Veneer trimming tools
  • Arta FR and impedance jig
  • Amplifier testing dummy loads
  • Drill bit depth stops
  • Xover board mounting techniques
  • Workbench lights
  • Table saw fixtures and jigs
  • DIY bar clamps racks
  • Crossover part storage cabinets
  • Jigs to facet and bevel tower cabinets
  • DIY table saw blade inserts
  • Threaded inserts
  • DIY cable splitter for driver measurements

So, how would I condense this down into just a few tags? The jig that I am working on is a modified form of the “juice groove” router template that is used to cut a juice groove in a kitchen cutting board. My mod will create a jig that can cut recesses and through holes for any sized input terminal cup or rectangular tweeter flange.

Looking at your list, if you want to keep it minimal…

Woodworking jigs (could be expanded to routers, table saws, drilling, other)

Speaker measurement jigs

Other jigs

Those are good suggestions but I’d say make the ‘jig’ itself one tag, and then you could also add ‘speaker-measurement’ and ‘woodworking’ as tags.

Sounds like a plan!

Hopefully we can try to avoid a bunch of overlapping tags to not water down it’s usefulness. I’ll try to remember to open the “all tags” section and find relevent existing ones that suffice before creating a new one.

Going to “all tags” and sorting tags alphabetically by name is no longer working for me. This sort function always worked properly in the past, but now produces a sort that appears to be chronological, not alphabetical. The system continues to sort properly by number, as usual; only the sort by name is not working. Anyone else having this problem?

I like to do sorts by name for the same reason that @DrewsBrews mentioned above, to avoid duplicates.

Yeah looks like it lists them most used down to least used. Should still be able to use ctrl-f in the “all tags” page and start typing in what you are looking for. That will search all the words on the page for matches.

As a temporary workaround, I exported all tags to open office, sorted the file on name, then exported the new sort as the attached pdf file. I only see one duplicate tag situation so far.

All tags sort on name 1-25-26.pdf (26.7 KB)

I just checked and the sorting of all tags by name function (click “All tags” then “name”) is now working again. The bug must have been fixed with the latest software update.
