ESS Heil new production

New member.

I am building speakers again for the first time in 40 years. I saw on the old site that some members have used the new production ESS Heils. I am building a Heil based 2 way.

I have some confusion on the hole spacing for the mounting bolts. I measure the center to center holes on the driver as 4.33”. However the holes on the rubber pad (which are smaller than the ones on the driver) measure center to center at 4.22”.

For those who have used these drivers, do you recall what you used for the mounting hole spread?

Thanks

First of all, Welcome !

My latest project I’ve used the new Heils in a 2way as well. Mine, however, are not ‘mounted’ but just sitting open with little rubber feet on top of a 1.5way sealed woofer enclosure, so others will need to jump in. It’s a very open sounding tweeter, and for what it’s worth I’ve got them crossed around 880-910ish Hz with a 3rd order high pass (combo active 2nd order LR and an passive cap, bi-amped).

Since noone else has responded yet, I’ll jump in with my measurements. The spacing distance of the holes on my pair is exactly 4.375" center to center. The rubber pad spacing distance is also 4.375" center to center. But my pair of Heils are the original, old production units; not the new production units. So it looks like the spacing distance may have changed with new production. I know that several members here have the new production units, so maybe someone will see this bump and chime in with measurements.

I’ve got a Heil pair from about 3 years ago, and another pair about 8-10 years old.

need to get off my butt and measure the mounting holes

2 pairs - Nov 2022 and Nov 2018

Both measure the same - 4 5/8 outside edge of hole to outside edge of hole.

Holes are 5/16”, so center to center I’ll say 4 5/16
