Has anyone ever tried them? Thoughts?
The honeycomb woofers look really nice, but motors are basic, so price/performance is low.
I built a set of large monitors with the 8’’ and Morel MDT 30S. Selling them was a stupid mistake. They sounded fantastic.
In the 1990s…wasn’t impressed then though maybe modern measurement gear and VCAD would help. OTOH they don’t seem to have evolved much if any since then and pricing is premium level.
Yeah, the pricing is up there. I was wondering if it was worth the cost. Looks like I may go with SB for the new project.
I’ve looked at buying the Eton drivers for many years. I figured they should be top notch since they are German Engineered… but I keep seeing their published FR responses and those curves look like something my kids would have drawn with Crayons back when they were 6 and 8 years old. Hard pass for me.
Nick and I used the 5" hex in a small build. Nice sounding, but yeah, probably not quite the value of other similarly priced drivers.
When I got started, I always wanted to build something with the Eton Acorsia midranges because they look so nice (to me). The story was always that Eton drivers in general don’t objectively measure great (frequency response or TS parameters) but they sound very good. While Madisound stopped carrying them quite a while ago, I see that SoundImports has four of the 4-inch in stock for EUR 330 a piece. So, yeah, still not building anything with them. ![]()
JackP has some Arcosia drivers, apparently working on them currently.
I always liked the look of the orange-juicer phase plugs.
Actually, they seem to be selling most of the drivers Eton has. (Madisound). Once again though, I think I will just go with SB.
I always wanted to try them since the 90s. Everyone seemed to like them. Oh well. After all these years I guess I still won’t ever hear them! ![]()
