Bump protection, perhaps.
cracked end… it was a 6.5mH, unwound to 6.2 but now using a PE buyout 6.5 for higher DCR to reduce bass hump but might try an LCR to tame the humpiness around 80-90Hz. Had accumulated a few of the 6.5, 9 and 12mH cheapo Pcore buyout inductors that haved used for low freq mid high passes or low freq series-shunt notches. Pushing pair of 8 ohm (4ohm) woofers under 200Hz. Still tinkering with that.
Imagine revisit xover after event though found tricky to get towers bass just right where get to liking in one room, then perception changes in another room. Plus noticed the solid concrete floor of hotel conf room get lot of floor bounce reinforcement, or at least what have noticed at past events.
Won’t be p/o the speaker event, but I am bringing my AMB M3 Headphone Amp and a pair of Sennheiser HD800S cans to demo it with. Sound source will be my Cambridge Azur 840C CD player.
Since it isn’t a speaker, this will be a backroom setup.
Fitted with a Linkwitz Cross-Feed circuit (low-medium mix) - it makes them sound more like listening to speakers.
I will also bring the Zen Triode amp. It requires much lower Z headphones than the HD800’s. Sounds great, but no bass with the HD800 100 Ohm Z.
If any of youse guys have low impedance Grados or Planars, you may like the Zen. It is for sale.
Final note - I may or may not make it Friday. I have a mandatory appointment in our New Jersey plant I am trying to finish early. Flying back Friday and driving to Ft. Wayne are probably out of the pic. If I get home Thursday, then it is more likely. Will be there Saturday for sure.
I plan to bring my TV speakers theme build and my Morel chubby faced eggs, also known as “Not a toilet seat” speakers
So your link goes 15-17th and says speaker diy rate $140 per night. If I pick 15-16th, it shows average cost $140. So is there no discount?
There should be a discount on the room block until 4/15.
I would call them and if they tell you there is no discount, let me know.
The discounted rate is $140/night as I was told.

I guess no theme speaker for me. My new table saw is broken before I’ve ever been able to use it. New tools are absolute garbage. I knew that but for some reason I tried anyway. I wish I could get an old craftsman but I realy doubt I’d be able to get a cast iron table it out of the basement.
Not sure how much more of this I can take.
[EDIT]
Masterforce only had a handfull of parts at the back of the manual they considered “replacement parts”. The broken part was not one of them.
It is a cammed and indexed washer that engages with the fence lock lever. Appears to be made of sintered metal.. Initially seems like a poor material choice, but I think they were going for a “mechanical fuse” idea. I never had the chance to put any real force on it. I was trying to set the fence the first time and it wouldn’t lock at all.. It would just spring back. After a few tries half of the washer fell into my hand.
After quite a bit of searching I found the Masterforce saw is a clone/rebadge of a Metabo (Hitachi) unit. I was able to find the part via searching the Metabo model so I ordered 4x in case it breaks a few more times. But “May take 4-6 weeks” for them to receive the parts to ship.
Get a track saw. I know a lot of guys that use them and love them.
I’ve made the switch. I still use the table saw for some cross cuts, but when I feel like spending $150 on an aluminum jig for the track saw, I probably won’t need it for that anymore, either. Accurate angles are really the only thing I still struggle with, and I think that’s going to be more of a metrology problem than mechanical. There’s probably a jig for that, too. And the dust collection is SO good I think I might be able to get away with midwinter basement speaker builds.
Also, booked. Thanks for the heads up @Wolf .
I don’t have anything else to bring this year, so if anyone wants me to smuggle a case of your favorite WI beer… my SUV is empty and my DMs are open.
I’ll take a six pack of Spotted Cow, sir.
I’ll be limited to just one theme speaker this year. Still waiting for the TE BMR54C-8A to become available so that I can start my next project.
I feel like a track saw would come in handy for breaking down larger sheet goods. But for several years now I’ve exculsively been using the Menards shelving boards that are already manageable sizes. Table saws can be very nice to make a bunch of cuts on seperate pieces at exactly the same width. I can’t see that being so easy for a track saw to do.
I have a bit of a love/hate relationship with tablesaws. I have been bitten a few times, all of them avoidable if only I’d have known.
I agree. If your table saw is half way decent, hard to find these days for sure, there is alot you can do with them and it is nice to get a cut for several panels that are the same.
I really want to go to CNC, though. For now, not horrible with the table saw and mine is a POS.
Tried booking today, couldn’t get the rate, either online or by calling. Called both the reservation number and the hotel lobby. The reservation number has no idea about the group rate and what was quoted was higher than the usual online rate. The hotel lobby said the rate ended yesterday night (14th), whereas it should have been available till today (15th). Will try calling tomorrow again to check.
If you can’t get that rate and want to save, try the Comfort Suites next door.
Heh, same here, I called the number listed on the page which was some hampton wide reservation. Got greeted by someone then it was like they had a pushboard of responses, like Cramer’s mad money. Thought was AI for a second but there were glimpses of what sounded like real human. Funniest part was it was the person’s own voice, like pre recorded responses. Like yeah I’ll check next door or just pony up as knew I was likely too late calling yesterday 4/15.
I’m printing 50 tent cards. Currently at print number 17. Will also bring some sharpies and name badges, same as last year. I’ll be arriving about 2 to 3 pm on Friday. Roughly 4 weeks to go!
Thanks, Bill!
