Who is the 6 foot tall “minor” lol?
Ken Rhodes’s youngest.
Yeah, that boy is tall!
Got the chubby eggs and TV speakers from Eggguy. Not sure your angle, unless you refer to the trash can.
Edit, gotcha, Drew.
Sorry Ben, I specified more.
My door prize score of some Ciare super tweets is not helping my urge to build my biggest speaker project idea yet. Not to mention the wife didn’t seem to protest at all when I discussed it a bit with her.
But I know I gotta make room first.
@Tallbrit and @DaveFred: Can’t wait to see what you come up with for those doorprize drivers. That exchange was kinda funny in a fateful way. What we all ended up with seemed appropriate for each of us (seemed so to me atleast).
It appeared Tallbrit thought I was letting them have coolest stuff, but these kinda gritty/industrial looking tweets should be very fitting for the old school idea I have.
You paid it forward by all the help you have been to me.
Dave got the other horns with the same motor, correct?
What did Gary get?
Yep Dave got those horn tweeters. The finish and anodizing color reminded me of aircraft grade parts.
Gary got the wood veneer cone drivers. Those were mega cool and I’d love to tinker with em, But need to focus on builds already in my head.
Really bummed I had to miss this year. Im still battling some health issues that had me hospitalized twice in the last year. Plus multiple days off of work. I am on the mend and praying that I won’t need surgery to correct this. Looks like a bunch of great builds! Very cool!!
6’2 and growing as a freshman. If you saw his face you probably wouldn’t even need to ask who’s kid he is. He often gets called “mini me”.
At first I thought he was just joking and calling one of us guys a minor.
I’m curious what Tim will do with the TX32 door prize. Hopefully, Tymphany will release the TX25 or TX20 as a companion, and a waveguidedTymphany Tweemid will be his solution.
What was/is the TX32?
Looked at the linked datasheet of the other 32mm ‘dome’ linked on diyaudio dome thread to get rough idea of range and see what mean that it’s like a upper range dome mid. Doubt enough fusion360 skills replicate the Perlisten concept (result in easy speaker name of MeListen). Also watched one of the videos about Perlisten’s approach where placement and grill on those tweets embedded in the waveguide important to not disrupt the waveguide too much. Plus David’s talk about iterative waveguide development makes me question my desire vs patience these days heh. But hell, need something challenging or unique to peak interest.
Guess I may start with a quick 3d printed flatish baffle plate to get basic response and quick look at distortion profile. Then stick in simple elliptical waveguide to see changes. So might end up with something closer to Sony’s touted budget CS5, single tweet and that dome in elliptical waveguide. Wondering what reasonable low reach is given 700 Fs of the other model. If could get down below 1500 waveguide loaded gives more options albeit baseline sensitivity not high.
Also I’ve come to realize something up with my EMM6-motu rig with hearsay that sometimes that mic’s calibration very meh. I’ve had persistent problem with exaggerated 5k region measurements. Not ready to pony up for earthworks nor omnimic 4k, think will go with Audix TP1 plus that HifiJim suggested - dang, could of swung by Sweetwater while there. Hear that one company that used to do calibration has faded or difficult to transact with.
So, next up to focus on refining measurement skills and confidence in them. Though did already drag up dual epic7 bass bins up from the basement and set those old Heil’s on top of them. Only did imp sweep to make sure nothing super wonky. Some work to get done for the job that employs me but do some quick sweeps and dsp it up at lunch or late evening, lawn gettin wiley.
I shoulda fought for the 8000lb ciare sub but think i got too many subs already, still have lab12c sitting around from PE door prize.
1100xxben (Ben Cooper) over on PETT or FB might be able to calibrate it for you.
The Ferrite 32TX can xover about 900Hz, so you may get lucky.
Also heard someone intrigued by David’s (@a4eaudio ) ‘tube’ connectors. Think Javad had used before as well. I once used those ones off amazon for electronic projects, were not heavy duty by themselves though did have male spade connector.
But I had done some horse trading with a person out west who was unloading stuff he got from a university’s EE dept and had acquired some of these. Like them better, though my search skills suck at mouser n digikey. Threaded section about 11/16, overall length about inch.
I had a good time, as usual. I won a CSS 12” subwoofer and matching passives off the door prize table, so I suppose an upgrade to the GRS currently running in the basement is in order. Won’t be until October, though, as I need to have someone “mule” it for me lol. Not exactly carry-on material for an airplane.
Thanks for suggesting Digikey. The ones I got off of Amazon only had a threaded section about 1/4 inch long which don’t make them a great option for a speaker cabinet. But they were good quality metal vs a lot of the all-plastic ones which is what proliferates Amazon. I searched Digikey for “panel mount banana connectors” and found some ones that I think are better. They had a decent variety to choose from. Here is just one…
