Karlsonator

Have any of you heard or built one of these cabinet designs ? To me it looks like a tapered TL inside.

Curious what full range specs are required for a design like this ? Heading back down the rabbit hole ….

I built one with a pair of Faital pro 4FE35 drivers. I was not impressed. I did build a pair of TABAQs with the same driver. With a little baffle step compensation and a notch, they were pretty awesome.

Noted , curious of any others experience if any ?

I have no experiance with the Karlsonator. To me it seems like a leftover from before we had a good understanding of proper speaker design.

There is a builder that pretty much only does these over on DIYaudio. In case you don’t know, the port slot loads into the flared exit chamber over the top of the driver. The flare is shaped just like the also older compression driver tube-style flares. Higher frequencies exit toward the notch, lower near the floor/end. It was a way to control response and increase output with a horn loaded method.

I do not know if I’ve heard one or not.

The attached speakers made an appearance at IowaDIY 2016. I was there, but I am unable to recall if I actually heard them play. Does anyone remember who brought them or how they sounded?

Might have to print some and see for myself.

Ken , do you have any of these laying around ?

Yes, I have 6. I used the plans from XRK who built his out of foam core.

Think you can knock out a pair tonight ?~~~~

Lol no.

I need to divide it into 1/4s. 8 parts to print will take a while. I’m also not convinced this will sound good.
