I’ve been narrowing my focus of hobbies of late - sat back on the speaker monitor designing in favor of improving my chops through exercise and practice - Also set-up a whole new drum kit from scratch leaving the past kits behind to see what else I can come up with.
Wide spread local power outage - I’m still on generator power and it’s cold out (25*F).
Lost power here tonight while I was mixing this tune that is so slow for a drummer that it is hard to stay alert while playing it - have to eat chocolate to stay in the groove!
I have been working-on the dynamics of the drum-kit voices and got the cymbals a bit more natural sounding so I can do rising crescendos on them now and the rest of the kit sounds more like me playing upon an acoustic kit, finally !
Play this ^ one loudly for your loved ones and, HAPPY NEW YEAR!
Please let me know if the overall balance of instruments and tone sounds OK or not so I can figure out where I need more work . . . (and what playback system you used - headphones, earbuds, car audio, etc . . .).
Final Mix of the last one again - - I brought that grungy killer guitar work up in the mix and leveled all the instruments now that my ears have rested [I can hear detail more acutely].
OK, I found the attack on the drums to be overpowering and the cymbals a bit too bright [on the 2nd mix] so here is the mastering mix according to my ears and checking the mix on several headphones and speakers - hope you like it:
Much more balanced and the vocals are up-front like they should be . . . Unless there are any recommendations otherwise - this is my last cut at this tune.
OK - this is an all original by an old friend and I just interjected myself into his work for fun - geared toward the ladies as instruction in maintaining their flowers . . .
Something completely different for your ears/speakers/headphones . . . This one is all about the mix . . . hope you like it . . . the stringed/bowed instruments and the groove got me going . . . . remixed the original tracks too . . . only 2 takes at this one . . .
OK, I moved the reverb from the drums to the master mix so all tracks sound like they are in the same room, boosted the Bass and Strings a bit - this smoothed the edginess and warmed up the over all sound.
