Maybe rename topic, but maybe for chatter about full rangers as we did have that tweeterectomy challenge in 2025. Though some of my fascination on them has passed, like others, often the urge to repurpose past cabinets or drivers or just try something different for ourselves.
So had some .5 cabs that got free at CSS 25 event from Mark. Tried yet again with TB W5 sub paired with SB4 coax - that dang woofer so low efficiency and hate the noise makes in low freq portion of sweeps making me think distortion or resonance (motor noise?). Decided to order some stuff from Cinergy picking up anarchy5 (152 close enough to my 155 cutout from W5) and some of those new 3.5 point source drivers (JR showed on his thread). Erich also threw in a sample 2 inch version that also has the copper phase plug but is paper. I tried some with those but more a challenge to get sound right for what normally making, ie not desktop speakers. Oh yeah, on that cab do already have 2.5L mid range cup (3d printed) so woofer vol about 11.7 liters.
On v2 of xover right now, though already knew with v1 that promising. Spent a few days messing with the 2incher fitted with 4 diff alignments and just couldn’t get to not sound small so I moved on for now. Currently using about 800hz crossover, might need to work on more as phase alignment suspect. Using a notch to broadly pull down the 2k area as v1 was touch forward and on raw meausrements not shown, some gentle dipping 4-6k so getting lined up with that some, trial n error. Nuff blabbering, some pics.
^^^ port response not merged, guestimate and do need to adjust tuning as used port from orig TB W5 setup, too low around 43 Fb, moving up to 47 Fb for similar F3 that is more appropriate for woofer, I think heh
