Nakamichi PA-7 recap

You can measure for shorts on the output transistors without having power applied. You’ll want to wait until the caps have discharged. It looks like all the bases & collectors are all tied together, so if you find a short there, you’ll have to pull them to find out which one is the culprit.

It may be something upstream that’s causing problems, but that’s where you need to have the unit powered up to find the offending part(s). For that, I would use a Dim Bulb Tester - easy to build.

Thanks again Tom. When you mentioned the rails I took a look at it and they big copper “ rails” that are by the transistors so I figured tjat must be them. I started looking at the resistors on each transistor and it looked like one was touching one of the rails. It was very close. Not sure if it was or not. But I bent it out of the way. All the other ones looked fine. Hopefully that was it. I will have to check it Wed. when I am off work.

With you having the rail voltage on the output, probably will probably be around that circuitry. A lead cut a little to long, over tightening the ouput ICs, ect.

Yeah, I was worried about that.
