So we’ve needed tunes out on our deck and around our pool for a long time. My son told me on our family vacation that he wants to learn wood and metal working. He’ll be a freshman this fall but he can’t take those votech classes until next year. We (he) is building this project with me only teaching/coaching him. He pushed his first wood through the tablesaw and bored some 2" holes. He glued up and clamped the basic boxes today:
I love it, and the Crocs show a wisdom that exceeds his age
My son just glued/clamped the last side on. Next up, teaching him how to flush trim with the router, then laminating it with some nice formica I got from Clay last year. Going to use the old school Dap contact cement I love/hate so much… lol.
probably the most fun you’ve had with speaking making in awhile ![]()
nice SawStop !
You’ve got that right! He’s young with a brain like a sponge. I miss those days lol. I am always thinking about what new task/skill I can teach him.
It’s a bit warm and humid here today but he wanted to make some more progress after getting out of the pool. He absolutely killed it flush trimming the enclosure. He’s got natural mechanical talent.
Just an observation, is he pulling the cabinet toward him?
Looks like the flush material is on the right, and not flush is on the left. So pushing away.
Nevermind, I messed up the direction.
He’s pushing the cabinet. First thing I taught him was that you never want to move the work piece in the same direction as the cutter. You can see he’s really got a good grip so he controls the motion, not the router bit.
When I rout I always need to remind myself (Google or Grok) about the directions for outside vs inside cuts, biz I don’t have a skilled mentor… keep up the good (safety first) instructions.
