New Boom Box project

I thought we’d start gluing them down today with contact cement… but it’s totally pool weather here today. No deadline for finishing this project so we’re all putting on our swim suits. Nascar and World Cup games to enjoy watching later today.

Plus one on the hearing protection!

My son had fun using a smooth foam roller to apply the stinky contact cement and sticking down all the panels. We pushed through the high temps and got all six sides done. Just need to flush trim the last two sides (top and bottom) and lightly finish sand all the edges. He loves projects like these and I let him do 95% of the work.

We woke up this morning to the first coolish (65F) weather and not so smokey this morning

Finished flush trimming and sanding all the edges smooth. The ND91-8 are cute little drivers. Also made a plate to mount the amp module and the power and input jacks.

Pixs because we all like pixs:

Looking good!

A little booboo in the left port and a bit too much sanding on some of the edges… but still a cool first project and we’ll enjoy the tunes while in our pool.

Next up is to take measurements and design a filter for these little drivers. Also need to add some rubber feet.

Looks great!

I wouldn’t have noticed if you hadn’t said something.

He has enjoyed the process so far and has learned some valuable hands on skills. That checks all the boxes I’ve had so far. Time to jump in the pool before the World Cup final match… then NASCAR at North Wilkesboro!

That is a cool looking boom box, really interesting finish panels (and well thought layout).

Eggguy (Clay) was generous enough to give me the formica laminate. My son has enjoyed laying everything out and actually doing the hands-on work.
