A cheap mahogany board from Menards. I should have picked a different board or gone to my local sawmill and bought a really nice piece of wood. This one was the straightest one with the nicest looking grain pattern, but it was light as a feather (weaker?).
At this point I think I’m going to just repair the damage with wood putty, sand them smooth, and paint the tops and bottoms satin black. Then they will sort of match the driver frames.
Apparently there are multiple species of wood sold as “mahogany” and the usage for this stuff that seems like it is crossed with balsa is limited, to say the least. I’ll be watching for your recovery, and I’m sure you’ll figure something out. Except for veneers, I just avoid it if I can.
Yep turn2. Every step of the way this questionable board gave me issues. So I decided to just cut them off and move on. These top M-T’s keep getting a 1/16" shorter every week LOL.
Maybe I missed it but it seems with wide-ish baffle it would help with BSC. Did it? The big round overs must have really smoothed the response. How much more than say, a 1/2 or 3/4 “ roundover?
I know you never tested that but, I also know you have been doing this long enough, that you should have an opinion on it, that is valid.

I guess my point of posting those models/sims is that the BSL is fixed based on the baffle width, regardless of the edge treatment (roundover radius). The peak after the loss however, around 850 Hz in this case, is slightly improved. The larger roundovers definitely help the tweeter’s difraction the most. I’ll post all of my on and off axis measurements after I take them.
Found the perfect sized piece if MDF in my scrap pile and rough cut the new four caps for these MT’s. I’ll be Titebond III and clamping them on tonight. Tomorrow’s weather is sort of sketchy…
