Needed 2 sheets of 1/4 BB ply and went to my local wood porn store. The “good old boys” are never happy to see me, they want commercial guys buying many thousands of $$ orders.
In August I posted about some inexpensive 3/4" higher ply count sanded plywood I found at Menards. A little less than a month ago I was surprised they restocked, and it wasn’t a fluke. More of the same kind of stuff instead of the typical low ply count like the old sheet at the bottom of the stack:
This is the place I go to for BB ply. Relatively reasonable and they are fine selling me one 5x5 sheet and will also cut it in half 30x60 for free, so it fits in my SUV. For mdf, I still need to go to home Depot, more locations and closer and they cut 4x8 into 2x4 sheets for free (5 cuts free), so again it fits in my SUV. 4 2x4 are over twice the price of 1 4x8 cut into 2x4s. Menards turns out to be cheaper when 11% off is going on, but they don’t break it down and I do not have a means of transporting 4x8.
My wife’s baby sister lives in Denver and I love going to Austin hardwoods with her hubby Gary. They let you walk around in the warehouse. A forktruck driver will jump off and ask you what you want to look at. They don’t even ask for your receipt. You walk in there first, look at stuff and then you go into the store were people sit behind desks. Now, I would never say that I wanted to look at everthing. You have to have a project.
