Request DISPLAY change to individual post entries in threads:

Jason, Can we please have the post # displayed instead of the duration?

Seems like a simple change for a moderator but not for a user.

This will make referencing post entries less difficult and enhance continuity of discussions.

Thanks for your consideration.

I’ll look into what the software options are for replies.

Off to the right there is a scroll bar that shows the post number (out of the total post count) and date posted. So currently my post is 3 / 3, so 3rd post of 3 total posts. It takes some getting used to as it is not quite perfect about always correlating with the top most visible post on your screen.

We can also left-click on the current post’s duration value to the right of the post’s text and get this window with a link and post number:

Try it and see what I mean.

Also do note you can reply directly to a reply with the button under it, and then in addition to your post appearing in order in the replies, it is linked right under the reply you replied to.

On this forum replies don’t quote automatically, but if you highlight text in a reply it’ll give you a quote option.

See comment below.

You can also click the “plus” icon after hitting reply and select “Quote whole post”. Hitting enter in the quote doesn’t break up the whole quote but you can just cut and paste. I just cut-and-pasted JasonP’s in half above.

I tried this “quote whole post” function on my latest post in the “Jigs, gizmos and useful stuff” thread, but it did not work. When I clicked the reply button, the “system” automatically edited my post and removed my quotation of the whole post.

I’ll try….

Will try again.

Looks like it works for you buy not for me. :upside_down_face:

There are conditions where the software will remove a quote. I’ll try to dig up the exact rules later, but it’s something about quoting a reply directly above and such.

Thanks, Jason.

Here is what the option shows in the settings for quotes:

“Automatically remove quotation if (a) it appears at the start of a post, (b) it is of an entire post, and (c) it is from the immediately preceding post. For details, see Removal of full quotes from direct replies”
