Snell Omni Speaker, Good Idea, or No?

I stumbled across this while looking for a project for someone posting on DIY Audio: it’s an old retail speaker with an 8” woofer, 1” dome tweeter, plus a 3/4” dome on the rear panel to add ambience. The person I’m trying to help has a pair of the tweeters.

Troels has an article on this speaker on his website and there’s a link to an old review.

Tweeter: Vifa D26TG-05-06, bass: Vifa M21WN-07-04, rear tweeter, Vifa D19TD-05-08.
Cabinets are approx. 33 x 89 x 28 cm (W x H x D), 56 litres, vented.

The drivers are NLA, plus I’ve no intention of building it, but what do members think of the concept?

Thank you for any comments, ideas, brickbats etc

I have a pair of E Type IV’s in our living room that I bought new sometime in the 90s. TBH, I have not listened to them in at least a decade, but I ran them with the rear tweeters turned down or off most of the time. I think the effect is very room-dependent. We have them pretty close to rear wall, so I’m sure that’s why I turned them off.

Thanks; sounds like the early 70s “Sonab” dual tweeter omni speakers which would only work properly in a specific size/dimensions of room and, IIRC, with Sonab’s own amplifier.

I’ve always though it would be fun to play with a rear mounted cheap tweet, with the ability to turn on/off, control level, and swap phase.
