Cool project.
Yeah I watched it about 2 hours after it was uploaded. I thought it was cool that he revamped those. I was surprised how good the drivers were. Not that they were amazing but much better than I expected.
They can say he is stupid all they want. Turned out to be a nice set of speakers.

Shenanigan Dan is a good dude. Anytime a person exposes themself they risk receiving criticism from people that think more highly of themselves than they ought. Maybe expose is not the best word.

I’ve seen more than a few “super smart” EU dudes who tend to jump on “lesser” people. But in this case they didn’t know Dan’s reputation and abilities.

Labelling an entire continent of people as bullies is quite rude, Don. Lucasz approach is quite confrontational, rude as well, so I won’t defend his attitude but have a problem with the individual, not their location in the world. You will find, that measurement practice with dual channel method or at least a timing reference is much more prevalent in Europe, USB mics, PCD and Jeff B did not gain popularity over there, but Clio did, so there is often a different mindset of what is good/correct practice and bad/wrong.
From the discussion, the issue is with single mic location for measurements and the use of x,y,z coordinates in VituixCAD. Yes, I would consider this to be “bad practice” (come at me, Dan), as it is simply complicating a linear delay value, and VituixCAD will adjust SPL level with the added z offset distance unlike basic tools like PCD, the error here will be very small however, unlikely to be of any real concern unless the z offset is very large. By publishing a video from a person with “reputation and abilities” is in fact promoting this bad practice, something to think about. “good practice” for VituixCAD for the way in which this speaker was measured would be to simply add in the required delay on the driver tab, and leave driver coordinates in the crossover at 0,0,0. The result will not be different, but the process is “more correct”.
But that’s just like, my opinion man, so do whatever you want when you build your speakers, and I’ll do the same. Going back to my corner..

Truth is we all call it good enough at some point.
Should we all be measuring and addressing cabinet issues with an accelerometer? If the goal is perfection then 100% yes!!! No one anywhere on the internet is saying your not taking good enough measurements without doing this step. So what gives someone the “authority” to say Dan is doing an issuficient job? He has provided more data for this upgrade than 99.9% of “OEM” manufacturers.
Dan has done the work of comparing his data with true annochoic measurements and knows where he needs to be to get his desired results.
I might agree with those complaining if Dan was trying to say his measurements are perfect and this is the only way you can do it. Thats not what he presented.
My greater fear is that all of us that spend all day complaining that this or that isnt good enough are chasing away would be diyers and we will kill the hobby.

There are some people, regardless of their country of origin, that are just social fucktards and feel like they can shit on anyone’s project without even hearing it. They like to act smarter than everyone else. DIYAudio is not exclusive. We have at least one asshat here that spouts off self brillance but has never shown up to an event and presented one of his own projects for peer evaluation. It’s super easy to be “that guy” hiding behind a keyboard. I have personally heard, with my own ears, projects from dozens and dozens of guys who post on here. They’re no hacks and they present some awesome sounding designs for us to actually listen to, not just judge based on internet BS. They are not keyboard warriors.

Dude, I just “call 'em like I see 'em”. I’ve been seeing this for years. I don’t know if these guys are German or Russian or whatever, or have post-doctoral papers in mathematics. I thought it was funny to see them “jump on” Dan, and he was so polite in response. I understand (finally) why dual-channel measurements are critical. Interesting that the recent interview with Andrew Jones he didn’t mention VC or dual channel once, although he seems to be very knowledgeable about hobbyist DIY issues.
I was recently in Canada for a couple of weeks, and found everyone super friendly and helpful. Flew back to Denver and found rudeness again.

I found over many years working with various types that a good response to rudeness is to be polite back, as it can really throw them.
Audio is a funny business. So many people know better than everyone else and can’t wait to let everyone know. At this point, enough people see our stuff that I can probably never post anything that won’t get shit on by at least one person, maybe more. As I write this, somebody on FB is fucking with us about relabeling the Bliesma tweeters even though we’ve been very transparent about this and Bliesma is the ones labeling them for us.
I’ve learned, though, that there’s no bad engagement as long as I can manage to not lose my cool (like Jeff Stahl when he snapped on PETT
), so I tend to be polite, but not take any shit and get my jabs in where I can. As for my measurement techniques, as long as the 5-star customer and professional reviews keep pouring in for the speakers we make, I’ll keep doing what I’m doing - it’s getting the exact results I’m hoping for. AND I’ll keep sharing those methods, not because I’m the rightest, but because I love speaker building and want to share what I love about it at any level someone is willing to meet me at.

I shouldn’t have said anything, for that I apologize. There was a misunderstanding that was presented in an accusatory way, I didn’t see what was funny about it, it’s pretty typical social media interactions. It’s easy to get caught up in the details and lose sight of what is important in this hobby. I have realized that, and reducing any social media / forum interaction to a bare minimum and replacing that with real in-person human interactions has been a great change, I recommend it to anyone struggling with internet fucktards and asshats, go touch grass!

One thing that bugged me about the Facebook post, is that even though the one guy knew “his” way of doing it, he did not bother to look into the alternative way you were adopting and didn’t bother to do any research.
As an example, before I joked around about you using the word “rightest”, which I didn’t think was a word, I looked it up and it is in fact “a real word, but it is rare and mostly considered non-standard” (per wikipedia). So thank you for the Cerwin Vega video and thanks for teaching me a know word.

That’s funny you picked up on that. I didn’t really know if it was a word or not, I was just using it as a play on not doing something exactly right, but still conveying the intended message.
