The "Barchettas" - 7" bass bins

I mentioned on the old forum that I started building some multipurpose bass bins. The word Barchetta in Italian roughly translates to little boat in English. These little boats will float several different M-T designs on top. These will house a single Rival Acoustic R176-KB-08 7” woofer, ported. They are 28.3 liters net internal. I should have a pair of M-T’s built to go with them in time for Iowa2025. Some pictures of my current progress:

What are your thoughts on the crossover side since they are going to support multiple M-T designs? I guess to be clear I’m asking if the crossover for them will just be set per M-T design or going for something more universal?

I think the low pass for these are going to be M-T specific due to the mid’s LF capability and Z-offsets and such.

My initial plan for these were for the Indy2026 theme. That said those xo’s have to be mounted internally (somwhere). For other M-T projects I foresee them as possibly external.

Those ought to kick pretty well! I like how you reinforced the baffle for the mounting hardware.

I finished the driver rebates after work today. Now I just have to cut the driver through holes and machine the backside reliefs. These should be ready to demo next month at DIY Iowa.

These enclosures are about 8 liters. Kind of big for the little 4” mid but I wanted them to be the same width as the bass bins and also wanted enough depth to be able to have several layers of different damping materials (2” fiberglass, 1” open cell foam, 1” denim) on the back wall without being right up to the back of the driver. The sides, bottom, and top will only have a single layer of that 5/8” thick fiberglass ceiling tile material.

Sounds like back-wave won’t be a problem!

This project is a lot like the one I have in mind for the satori 9.5 I have in the shelf.

Keep the good work.

Got some more baffle machining done after work today:
