Wow. 8 years gone already. What an icon
He had so many great songs. A lot of people only know the popular radio hits from Full Moon Fever, but he and Mike Campbell wrote some awesome songs way before that. Hard drugs have ended way too many greats too soon. Keith Richards didn’t get that memo LOL
Damn the Torpedoes is a great album. That one spent a lot of time spinning on my TT in college.
“Wildflowers” is a masterpiece. If I could only take 5 albums to a desert island, this would be one of them.
5 albums on a desert island - that would be a good thread.
I never had the pleasure of seeing him live but I watched a concert video of him from Gainesville FL and his show looked fantastic. Even had Stevie Nicks come out and sing with him on “Stop dragging my heart around”! Mike Campbell did more by playing less if that makes any sense.
He was one of those marvels that just never wrote a bad tune. I did get to see him live, once. Fantastic show as y’all can imagine. RIP.
I think there was a thread on that topic on the old MAC/DIY website - Concert for George, on which Tom and the Heartbreakers did three numbers, would be on my latest desert island list.
He had such a great voice and of course, a great band.

The news of his passing was pretty harsh. Not long before he lost everything when his burned down. Bitter end to a sweet life.
My grade school had a rummage sale every year. They held a raffle at the end and in 7th grade I won a promotional copy of his first album. That would have been about 1-1/2 to 2 years? or so before he started getting serious attention. Didn’t appreciate his work at the time. Sold the record a long time later for a decent chunk of change. Ended up liking his work quite a bit.
