What I have been working on

This is a design I came up with back in the mid 90s and never built due to finances and proper tools to do it. It’s a closed box satellite speaker capable of going down to 100 hz and put out 110 db a pair at 3 ft. I had to find different drivers since it has been 30 years.

I am using Aurum Cantus AC130 50/CK 5.25” woofers and the SB26STCN-C000-4 tweeter crossed at 1900 hz. The hump and dip of the AC130 made it that low but the tweeter doesn’t seem to care. Stupid low distortion. Turns out, a 4th order on the tweeter and a 2nd order on the woofer works. I plan on using DSP for baffle step and high pass. This helps with keeping sensitivity as high as possible, which is about 87 db. These things can take gobs of power. 150 wpc.

I will put some measurements up tomorrow and pictures of the crossover. It is external.

I have also built stands for them. I am not done with the project but getting close. I can say, at the very least, I can listen to them and enjoy them.

Your finish looks great and matches your drum kit nicely. I have used that SB tweeter a couple of times and it is one of my favorites!

Absolutely one of my favorite tweeters. For 40 bucks I didn’t expect much, but damn!

Oh, and the finsh took forever. I think I have 20 some coats of clear, lol!

I wanted to use epoxy but after some experimenting, it just wasn’t feasible.

Nice work!! Pretty cool looking design, what veneer is that?

Your baffles/tweeter pods look like the exact same color that I painted the 12 point cage in my Mustang (Krylon “Smoke Gray”). Yours are a lot shinier than my cage. You must have cut, buffed, and polished them, or sprayed them with some high gloss clear.

Yeah, alot of work. Used charcoal grey and 20+ coats of clear. Lots of sanding then buffed out.

So deep it looks like it is behind glass!

That was definately the plan!

here is the crossover. Will build a box for it with clear acrylic top. 4th order on tweeter and 2nd order on woofer. 1900 hz.

The last measurement is 45 degrees off axis. All measurements were from 3 feet or 1 meter away.

Subwoofers are four RSS210HO-8.
