Yeah, always look forward to seeing Vance. Not that I don’t mind Javad, but I too wonder. Hopefully nothing life threatening.
When you are as old as Vance, that could happen.
While we are living we are also dying. Hope for the best. Plan the the inevitable.
I also wish Vance the best, but most of the members here likely don’t know how old Vance really is. Not my place, but I feel most would be surprised at his real age.
This is a great song to consider. Sade - Lover’s Rock
AI seems to guestimate early 80s
He wears it well.
I made a spec sheet type handout for the judges (attached pdf). I like to give this handout, together with a schematic diagram, to the judges while I set up my speakers. I noticed that some of the other contestants like to do the same thing. Thoughts?

I used to but stopped. Doesn’t seem to influence the results IMO. And frankly I don’t want their eyes to influence their ears. If you’re like Ben and did something really off the wall like his notchception then it probably makes sense to help explain what you did. But for a plain vanilla speaker build like I usually do it doesn’t seem necessary and could hurt rather than help
The other contestants seem to like them, though. Useful for talking to fellow hobbyists
I’ve always had some sorta single sheet hand out. Figured can’t hurt and shows a bit of initiative to the game.
As far as I was aware they would ask for a circuit diagram at least. I don’t think I ever provided one sofar. Was planning to print one out this time if I get my printer hooked back up.
I would guess 80s considering he was writing books about speaker design in the 70s.
No need to guess, it is openly posted on his publicly accessible Facebook page,

Highly unusual, I finished up my SDC entry with several days to spare, currently listening to them as a stereo pair for the first time,
Entering in the >$300 <2000"^3 category.
Drivers are Purifi PTT6.5W04-01A woofers with PTT6.5PR-01A passive radiators I picked up from the DiyAudio group buy Norman Tracy did pre-Covid and a pair of SB Acoustics Satori TW29TXNWG-4 textreme waveguide tweeters from the Solen Black Friday sale with an external crossover.
Yep, glad I’m not in that category ![]()
Not like I’m ever truly in contention for my own category, but damn.
I have 2 entries in that same category. I ain’t skeered.

That’s a heckuva gauntlet you just threw down.
Also, I have a question for y’all. We were going to use a pair of Solstice for the “reference” pair this year because they were convenient… but I can bring my big Continuum mid 3-ways back in if anyone would like to hear those again. I know some people wanted to hear them but couldnt make it. Just let me know.
At 92 lbs they are a bit of a hassle to move around.
I vote your continuum 3 ways!
