I think it was Ben who asked at InDIYana 2025 if anyone was going to take their tweeterless project, add a tweeter and redo the crossover.
Well, that is what I am going to do for my InDIYana 2026 project, redo last years project and add a tweeter.
After adding a Wavecor TW030WA13 to the top of this cabinet, I should be able to have XO points of 200 and 3200 between the Dayton Audio Epique E150HE-44 5.5" woofers to the Kartesian Wib120vHE fullrange to the Tweeter. I think that satisfies the Four Octave requirement Ben set out for 2026 with the Kartesian Wib120vHE running as the mid.
Only question is how to add the tweeter without it looking like a kludge bolt on, any ideas?
If you continue the ply-edge theme. That could take the bold pattern it creates to the next level with a more complex shape like a sphere/egg/teardrop/etc. Becoming more of an accent piece for the style you have already created, rather than an out of place addon.
Most straight forward way I can think to do that is woodturning. Don’t know if plywood is particularly advisable to turn though.
You could 3D print something similar to B&W speakers. Since it is just decorative the actual shape and volume don’t matter so you could do whatever looks best. If you don’t have a 3D printer, I’m sure someone on the forum would help.
I’m thinking something like this shape. It wouldn’t need to go all the way through the depth of the speaker, just deep enough for the tweeter housing and sufficient space to hide the wire. Maybe make it out of the same wood the top/sides are currently made from? Could even cut/sand off that top layer and make it one cohesive shaped piece of matching hardwood.
