DYG's ... continues

I’ll toss this out if ported, and possibly a long-shot, but worth a try: I had a ported speaker a couple of years ago which was probably not sized correctly and I very loosely stuffed the port and it pulled down the bump nicely. Probably give up a bit of low-end extension, but I found it a good trade-off.

Ed, scroll through that page, the port is shown.:sign_of_the_horns:t3:

Done! Another project complete. This one was definitely a journey, spanning multiple years and design changes. Now to enjoy them for years to come.

…of course till another project comes along.:sign_of_the_horns:t3:

I love the way they look. Also the drivers look badass!

I wish I could find the old kevlar drivers from Focal and Scan Speak. Always wanted to try them out.

Up the Irons!

Lots asking about the woofers, thought I posted some pics, but couldn’t find it.

So here goes…The aerogel surrounds had hardened up and I couldn’t find a proper replacement as they’re kind of a weird size. So I saw an option on AliExpress of a surround/cone assembly, took a chance and ordered them.

After receiving them and guessing it’d be close enough, I started checking out the driver. The cone to voice coil joint actually separated fairly easy. The tinsel leads attach to the voice coil between the cone and spider, so careful work with a scalpel and the cone and surround was removed.

I shimmed the VC in place and started fitting the new assembly onto it. I used some fingernail scissors to trim the opening in the fiberglass cone to fit snug on the VC. Once that was satisfactory, I used black CA glue to adhere the joint.

Next I used some SS wire to make the holders to keep the surround up away from the frame flange. Used the black CA again, ran a bead around it, then let the surround down.

Ran DATS and OmniMic and decided to give them a go.

wow! best mids? Is that from the Aerogels?

Yes, the aerogel cones were definitely something special. It’s weird no other manufacturer ever picked that up or tried any variation of it. The 4” size probably has a bit to do with it too, allowing a high xover point for better integration with the ribbon.
