IowaDIY 2025

In addition to those stands, I’ll also bring the Oppo (and some cables) as that should now be considered a fixture at this event. Unless someone wants to haul a different Transport/DAC/Preamp this year - I am OK leaving the Oppo slotted in downstairs. The Oppo is all-in-one plus plays data disks so it makes setup easy peasy, is the only reason I bring it.

Who is bringing power this year? I refuse to haul the Dreadnaught up the stairs, if I ever move from this house it very well could end up being left behind lol. I have been looking at a big Adcom a local yokel has for sale, it is rated 200W x 2 into 8 ohm and 350W x 2 into 4 ohm and would be a killer amp for one of these events - if it can keep its cool. If I am not mistaken, it has bare wire outputs though. So depending how addicted we are to banana plugs. Not sure if it would take 10awg bare wire, either. Regardless, I am not in a position to be buying anything anyways.

If I do bring the Oppo, I should have enough cables to get a system up and running as soon as there is an amp at the ready.

The missus and I should be there by noon, we traditionally have lunch at Outback when we arrive and then try to talk the hotel management into letting us into the room to start set up.

So if any of you are planning on being there around noon, hit me up and you can join us for lunch!

I won’t get to the hotel until 5:00 PM. I’m looking forward to seeing everyone again. I wonder if Brad’s wife got another Elk?

Yes I’m excited too, can’t wait to see everyone again and actually bring a DIY build, been years since I’ve done that! Maybe this year we’ll actually run smooth, like the room AC will work, we won’t lose power in the middle of the day, hotel staff will behave like upright citizens… I’ll cross my fingers!

What is everyone bringing?

I have yet to make a final decision on attending. No new builds for me this year.

Last year I demoed the vintage OHM Walsh Model 5 with one tweeter not working. They have been repaired to the satisfaction of the OHM repair shop. Those who attended this year’s InDIYana event heard the results, but if other Iowa attendees are interested to hear them repaired, I can bring them one last time.

Let me know.

Towers featuring the Seas C18EN002/A coaxial paired with four Anarchy 708s and four Dayton PRs. Pretty much the first build of my own brainchild, but I had a ton of help getting to this point. They’re getting a paint job now and I need to finish a ā€˜plate’ to seal the back, as well as assembling the v1 crossovers. Probably won’t have any time to fine tune them so I’m hoping the Iowa gang can give me some pointers on what they’re hearing in-room.

Edit: I don’t think my buddy will be meeting me there this year so I will need some help moving these around!

I’m sure help can be arranged.

I think I threw my back out just looking at the raw cabinets!

I hear you have an excellent excuse this year! Planning ahead I see. :stuck_out_tongue:

I have the Samson and Classe. I am taking Friday off, so should be around for the full event.

Just to recap, I will be bringing my Micro Grand Utopia speakers for demo. Will also bring tent cards & name badges. Not bringing my pine stands this year; as they are 26ā€ tall with a large footprint and I cannot find a spot for them. I might have room for my Roberts 1630 all vacuum tube reel-to-reel tape recorder, but not sure. I have it on my test bench for restoration. Thinking of putting my demo tracks on it to create an all vacuum tube front end.

This is my first picture attachement test on the new forum (took me a while to find the upload buttom):

I will be bringing some 24ā€ stands that are fairly heavy duty, but my 28ā€ stands are both somewhat lightweight - although the wooden ones I have might come along just in case. Be a full vehicle this year.

Guess prob best to append… this came across my FB feed:

I will bring my tube amp speakers. The cardboard box is ready to go. I do have my Indy no tweeter speakers, but I don’t think I can manage that many items at the airport.

carry on ?

Veneer came in today for my Iowa 2025 project. I guess I know what I’ll be doing this weekend.

The price was right, so I bought 2 different lots. I’ll have 12 extra sheets of unbacked walnut for future projects.

That’s going to end up beautiful, I think.

Registration page coming soon, guys.

Hi Tom

These are just raw veneer, I assume, no backing of any sort? Whats your process for veneering? Also, do you do anyting to prevent telegraphing - backed veneer are thicker so handle telegrpahing better.
