IowaDIY 2025

I’ll be there with the ZAX satellites, well, if I can stop making costly engineering mistakes! I’m gluing up modular plastic now.

Looking forward to seeing & hearing those, Jason.

Me, with one pair of floorstanders.

I’m already here.

I can see re: ScottS that there will be Barbie Girl.

Not bringing my (this year’s) Indy speakers because they suck without a tweeter.

I’m planning to go 1 pair of speakers. I have 2 receivers (HTR’s) im not using and an Onkyo AV multichannel preamp model PR-SC885 (has balanced outputs 7.1). AVR’s are Marantz SR5006, Denon AVR-5700 neither have remotes. Not sure what to price them at but would consider reasonable offers. I am not sure if I am going to stay saturday night I may head home.

If anyone is from the chicago burbs are wants to carpool let me know. It looks like a roughly 5 hour drive, so probably leave around 7am.

JR, Jason, or Bryan,

I have had just one request to bring the repaired OHM WALSH Model 5s. I want to make sure the MAC Managers are OK with that since they are not DIY. If you are OK with it, I will bring them. I plan to leave after lunch so would need to demo them anytime in the AM.

Marv

Did you bring them to Indy? Which ones were they?

I did not bring them. I was in the middle of relocating to AZ. I got them out yesterday and they are not good. I am going to remake them with a tweeter.

Go ahead and bring them Marvin, I too would like to hear them restored.

Will do.

This is a little off topic but I thought it might be of interest to everyone that is staying in Ankeny. If you like really excellent Mexican food and great drinks, there is a restaurant on the other side of the interstate called Hernandez that I highly recommend. I know the owners and have followed them for several years. Really nice guys and great food.

Just tell them Jimmy and Louvina sent you and they will treat you with excellent service, great food and great drinks.

See you Saturday!

Thanks for the insider tip! I love good Mexican food. See you on Saturday. Is Curt able to make it this year?

Don’t forget to eat the bugs, Craig.

With any luck, JR should be able to find an appropriate Margarita there.

I was going to run into a checked baggage weight limit issue with my speakers (guess that is what I get for sand-filled walls!) But turns out, a checked box is alright too, and that’ll push them under the 50 lb limit.

I will definitely be there around noon on Friday, if anyone wants to do lunch at Outback with the wife and I.

Curt let me know he wasn’t able to make it this year. Neither one of us have anything new to show this year so next year will be a double whammy from us. I hope….

The food list is extensive and top shelf in my opinion. I think you’ll like it.

They have an extensive list of margaritas, so there’s something for everyone including beers and other varieties. They have an old fashioned based on tequila that my wife loves. It tastes like a high end Bourbon drink. I on the other hand I’m a margarita fan. They have an extensive list of margaritas that should suit everyone. My favorite is their “shaker” margarita that is very similar to a “Cadillac” margarita that comes in the shaker and is the equivalent of about 2 1/2 drinks. Yummy!

This is a secret but they often bring a round of free shots after dinner for those that want. No guaranties on that but they are never stingy.

BTW, all of the portions are large! You will be full if you decide to attend.

My wife and I share a fajita and still have a take home box.

It’ll be fun!

Jim

2012 in Grinnell is the standard we have to live up to from a Margarita perspective.
