Look what I bought this morning

To replace my Altima. 1997 XL, 2.3L 4 cylinder, 5 speed manual, 48,xxx miles, and NO RUST! Just small dings and scratches. Drove it home 138 miles. Runs and rides great.

Nice! Back when small trucks were small. And so few miles!

Very clean - nice find

Aw sweet! Ever since my dad had a 5speed s10 I always wanted a mini truck. Sadly he sold it to a buddy of his 6mo before I turned 16. That “buddy” promptly blew the engine getting it stuck in mud (rwd) and revving it too much trying to get out. :poop:

Yeah this is a rear wheel drive, not 4WD. I’m ok with that. The rims/tires on it are almost brand new snow tires! He threw in the stock 4 rims/tires with regular Cooper tires for free.

My Son thinks (and I totally agree) it would look a whole lot nicer if we lowered it a couple inches (not slammed) and got some bigger tires on it. Maybe next Spring.

Nice find!

May not need to lower, just fill with big wheels and bigger tires.

Love it! Had a beige ‘03 I put some anthracite bullits on and loved the look.

Looks great, hope you got a great deal on it!

Excellent, makes me think of the viral social https://www.youtube.com/shorts/B1CIh2yFAI0

Trying to figure if next year get new/lightly used vehicle for wife and I then hand down our CX-5. My oldest (soon to be 24 finally finishing at OSU this year) given my old 2012 cts - not need 2 cars since covid, given that both of us work remote, for now heh. Alternatively maybe just find a good find like this, though I don’t trust my son with rear wheel drive. Really prefer to not buy a vehicle given all the 20-25 vehicles have become so complicated and suspect quality (CVT’s, guinea pig engine platforms, electrical etc.). But the GM 6 cylinder (3.0L) in the caddy notorious for timing chain failure where already have the check engine light for past 10-15k from cam timing sensors, 192k, and with some mild-ish oil burning not sure worth investment (~2k on the cheap from old school mechanic). 18 months back i bought the younger one a 2011 mazda3 reasonably and has been solid.

Those 4cylinders were pretty much bulletproof. Not much power, but keep up with regular maintenance and drive the pi$$ out of it. The 2.9v6 were also very long lived and a big step in power.

I put over 260,000 miles on my ranger gt before parking it. Still ran and got ~25mpg.

Yessir the 2.3l is basically am industrial motor. Put a turbo on the bitch and make her go. Your spin on a SVO.

Was it the same 2.3 in the superchicken? Buddy had one, ran good, liked oil.

How did you find one that old in the Midwest without any rust?! That’s amazing.

And a sound system.

Right on! Nice find👍🏻

I get the feeling a v8 is going in there.

Score! I love the color. Had a ‘95 Escort the same shade. I think it was called “Cayman Green”.

A simple HU, couple of decent 5x7’s in the doors and an 8 or two behind the seat sounds about right

Found a lowering kit that drops it 2” in the front and 4” in the rear. The rear is 2.5” higher than the front right now. So it would still have a tiny bit of rake. I don’t want to go so low that I worry about steep driveways and speed bumps.

I had a 2003 4.0l that I put an Eaton supercharger on. Was fun.
