It appears very similar to the Dayton RS150 but with a copper cap and flatter impedance curve. Looks good up to 5k, but we plan on crossing over much lower than that.
We are pairing it with the buyout Wavecor tweeter from Madisound.
On my end, I plan on using a pair of the old school PE 0.375 curved cabinets tuned to 40Hz. This yields an F3 of ~50Hz.
I don’t think it will be too bad for $150 in drivers. Should make for a nice desktop monitor.
I’ll cut and machine baffles as early as this weekend depending on how my wrist feels. Expect these at Indy next year.
Currently $28.45, probably going up in the near future. Cast frame, copper cap, higher Xmax than the RS150, just takes a little larger enclosure for optimum extension. Lot to like here, and when you consider the price…
Decent enough for what amounts to a 5.5” driver. Have not done any cabinet work yet due to some other stuff that has come up but hope to do some of it today. For this one, I just need to machine baffles and cut holes for the ports.
I did not measure Vas, but the rest of the parameters were all close to advertised so I made a reasonable assumption that advertised Vas is close enough.
The other build will be using the MCM 55-5660 (6” KB series with copper in the motor and underhung voice coil) and the SB Acoustics waveguide tweeter. Not the really expensive one, obviously. Should be fairly nice, with sealed bass down to 62 Hz.
Brad tested the 5660 on his IEC baffle and IMHO performed very well.
Fun story, I found this pair on Fleabay for $25/ea or best offer. I offered $20/ea and they countered with $2!!! I assume he fat-fingered something. I got the pair for about $15 shipped, I did send the seller a message thanking him lol.
