Well I broke a mounting tab on one of the unobtanium tweeters and I cannot get it fixed. Little pissed off at myself right now, been a long time since I did something that incredibly stupid. Now to ponder other tweeters. Fuck me.
Modified hole to accept my other pair of beryllium tweeters. As you can see mounting depth is different, I’ll just deal with it for now and use some heavy gasket material when it comes to final assembly.
OK that bullshit out of the way, here are some preliminary in-box measureents.
As you can see, distortion is not at all a worry on this build. See what I can knock together later.
I wish they would adopt a better system for tweeter connections. You either bend or break the tiny tabs, or you melt the plastic if you solder the lead on.
So this is going to end up being quite a few components thanks to a couple notch filters I determined were necessary. However, the end result so far is quite promising.
I was considering getting a pair of the small Motus drivers the other day. Then they were out of stock. I hope they come back. ![]()
The tweeter is a little ragged so it took a couple notch filters to get there but this current iteration sounds pretty nice to my ears.
Distortion at 1M SPL accurate. This is right at the threshold of the amps linear capability. Turning it up even a bit more really skews the distortion measurement. In any event, ultra clean above 100Hz.
Nothing to worry about here.
I’m going to listen to this iteration a few days and see whats up. The two notches solved an annoying glare. I thought about an additional notch at the tweeters Fs but I believe the parallel resistor I have in there probably suppresses the impedance peak enough.
Anyways, here’s hoping Cinergy gets some more of these.
That FR looks pretty darn flat to me, JR - Good Job!
Yeah, looking good
This image makes me feel more normal
The contrast of 2 components on the mids and 10 on the tweeter is striking.
Reminds me of my Drottnar, one part on the woofer, many on the tweeter.
I like these, I hope you guys do too.
They look great and the measurements do too.
