I’m at the stage of permanently gluing tube ends into a 3/8’“ deep 1/4” wide groove in MDF. Not just a tack bond. The tube will sit flush against either the inside or outside of the groove. Would you recommend Gorilla Glue over Titebond or any other adhesive?
Titebond II has worked very well for me. Don’t know why I tried that Liquid Nails.
I made a tiny bit of progress after work today. Work has been super busy and will continue to be for the next month and a half ![]()
I 3m spray glued two sheets of 60 grit sandpaper to small sheet of masonite and clamped it to my tablesaw:
I was able to sand the tops and bottoms perfectly flush:
I still need to sand the cardboard tubes smooth and use woodfiller to fill all the gaps and fix any other imperfections.
I was able to use the router template and do the rectangular rebates for the tweeters. They turned out really nice.
Just finished cutting the through holes by hand with my Bosch saber saw. Not a lot of meat left around the tweeter but the gaskets should seal fine. And the 4" mid that will be crossed around 400 Hz won’t be creating too much internal pressure.
Looking great, brother!
No doubt driver rebates are a nail biting affair. Coming along nicely![]()
Very cool
Yeah, I can vouch for that! The pincushion rebates definitely made my BP go up a hair while cutting.
Very sweet!
I tell ya, for doing rebates and wacky shapes…once again, the 3D printer is a transformative tool. At least for me–because I don’t think I could have pulled off what Craig did.
I was sanding away on these things after work today and had to do a big “Whoa Nelly” on myself. Reality check: I have never heard these tweeers. I have never heard these mids. I have never heard these woofers in a sealed enclosures!
I just need to take these to the point where I can take solid, fundamental measurements, design competent crossovers, then doing voicing and decide how much I like or dislike them before I commit to anymore finishing products and elbow grease. Paint products and nice veneer aren’t cheap. Picture of where they are today:
That’s a tough one. Maybe stripe it like a barber pole ?
Say what?
Foundation coating?
Sorry, I am of the camp of hide it or accentuate it.
You are giving me some design inspiration. It is definitely a design worth pursuing
Project name reminds me of the time I worked in my shop non-stop for 3 months while divorcing that two timing wife . . .
I have no doubt your squiggly lines will come out just fine!
