Subject to change but for now the weekend forecast is +5" of snow, +1" of ice, or any combination of the two with a possibility of up to 12". Huge winter storm across most of the South. This time skrew the grid, even if it goes down for two weeks like in the 93’ ice storm, we will have power. May have to ration but we will have water, heat, and basics. I will not have to fetch water from the creek (before it froze over) to flush the toilet, or babysit a kerosene heater all night worrying about carbon monoxide poisoning. If it comes to it, I have maybe 10k more unused pv panels that could be temporarily deployed. Bring it on …

Extreme cold warning for us here in MN

I’ve been dreading Friday, the forecast for Western Michigan is a high of 0 degrees F (low of-16). I just checked Minneapolis :dotted_line_face:  - I think I’ll sit back and enjoy the warm weather here on Friday.

-5F for a high for us, -15F for a low. My daughter’s first formal dance… going with a boy she really likes was canceled Satuday night due to the cold.

I like to keep water dripping slowly in the sink when it gets this cold. Helps to prevent freeze up/bursting situations by reducing pressure build up in the copper pipes.

In Melbourne we have 20C today, 32 tomorrow and 40 on Saturday, which is bad news; the fires which started during the last heatwave are mostly still going. Parts of northern Western Australia are forecast to hit 47C (116F) or higher. Prevailing winds mean that despite being literally thousands of miles away, we get that weather sooner or later.

Yup, not looking forward to this weekend.

Supposed to tickle -20F overnight here, with highs in the negative teens for Friday, and single digit highs Saturday and Sunday. Wish I could work from home like my wife can.

My wife works from home…it’s all good when you have power/internet.
Had a power outage last night at 2:30, came back on at 4:30, didn’t have internet till noon.:man_facepalming:t2:

We can’t undercut you more northern folks, but my backyard Wx station says it’s waaay windier than this.

Wife called me at work and said the furnace was trying to start, but then shut down. House was 64 degrees. I came home and “rebooted” everything, but got an error message. Called the HVAC dealer who installed the system and they actually had someone available to send out right away. As soon as I got off the phone, the furnace started working again!

Horrible day to have furnace issues.

Sofar I’ve been lucky fixing my own for a while. My wife had a condo with a reeeaally old electric furnace. I replaced the heater coils twice and the blower motor once. At our current house we have gas and stopped working once sofar. I was able to get the flash code and track down to a clogged port that senses if the exhaust extractor fan is running.

I really should get an inverter+battery setup that can power the furnace blower for a few days.

Looks like an intermittent pressure switches that don’t always pass the system check. Luckily, it seems to be working at least part of the time and the furnace is running at the moment. He wasn’t sure if he had any in stock and had to go back to the office to check. Fingers crossed it can limp along until he can get some.
