Sounds like the PE showroom is no more after next week. No more local pickup. That levels the playing field alot more with JFcomponents for me If I’m forced to pay shipping no matter what. If I’m going to wait anyway, and pricing is comparable, I’m going to support the enthusiast every time.

I feel really bad for the showroom guys. Nothing was said about that specifically but the writing is on the wall IMO.

it’s going to get to 47 today in some parts of South Australia - unfortunately, that’s Centigrade. No wonder so many people live underground in Coober Pedy.

I was looking for a speaker to “sanity check” my own speaker builds. I searched for the Genelec 8020C on eBay and the lowest priced one also had a “make an offer” option. These run for $615 new and $400 used for a single, so pretty unlikely I’d get one. But I made a ridiculously low offer just in case they’d accept it and they did.

I hooked it up, matched volumes, and A/B’d it to a speaker I’m trying to finish. I’ve really been working on my critical listening skills and these were drastically different. Either the Genelec was broken, or I really need to give up speaker building. It was over the holidays, so it was about 3 weeks before I had a chance to measure. Maybe Genelec’s are just a little “bright”?

The original Genelec I received is below. I was able to exchange it and received a new (used) one today, which sounds quite nice.

This aught to be interesting. Apparently it was from the University of Michigan Library.

From the Radiation Lab! Might give new meaning to “Light ‘em up”.

Rick Beato Guitar Quiz: Rick gives you 20 single notes by famous players and asks you to guess their identity. It’s really hard, I only got six:

I only got the four easiest ones.

This is for you, Bill…

Nixie tubes! Jukebox! Vintage electronics smell! Makes me want to reach into the picture to take a closer look at the price tags.

That nixie tube thing was $60, I think?

Looks like the innards of a jukebox in the 2nd picture.

I was trying to figure out what that was. I believe you are correct.

I missed that Bobby Whitlock of the Delaney and Bonnie Band, Derek and the Dominos and renowned session musician had died, last August. Sad news, wasn’t widely reported.

Among other things, he played on George Harrison’s “All Things Must Pass” and Eric Clapton’s first solo album as well as the Dominos. Co-wrote some good songs on Layla, too.

Saw these there too… obviously a bit overpriced for a dirt mall…$600

Classics! I remember hearing those at World Radio in the mall around 1980.

I listened to those many, many years ago as well. They got a good review in The Absolute Sound magazine, as I recall, which probably explains the high asking price. Collectors! The Dahlquist DQ-10’s used the same woofer that was used in the original Large Advent Loudspeakers. I have a working pair of those woofers in my restored Large Advents. I played them at IowaDIY back when we were still meeting at the Harris Center.

The Advent had some issues as I recall from Grinnell, but were still surprisingly good considering their era.

Been hearing some chatter as of today about some weather moving through the south this weekend. Doesnt sound good with ice and snow , sounds like heavy amounts . Just a heads up.

Thx - Generator is refueled and a big roast ready for the slow cooker . . .
