That’s frickin awesome![]()
Fabulous!
It’s going to be 45C (113F) in Melbourne today, so they’ll be closing the court roofs at the Australian Open tennis and re-scheduling the outdoor court matches to avoid players getting heatstroke. Rather a contrast to the tragic snow storms in your area.
Geoff
I’m not sure which is worse - extreme cold or blistering heat. Stay cool down there!
Worst part about living in the Great plains is we get both.
As long as you can keep warm, I’ll take the cold any day, but then our Winters are nowhere near as severe as yours: snow usually only falls above 800-1,000 metres. The biggest hazard for us city dwellers is ‘black ice’ on roads.
Definitely an indoor day here: took Walter our mini schnauzer for his walk at 7.30am when it was only 24 and he’s now flaked out on cool floor tiles! Will spend most of the day sorting through my Hendrix collection to see what I haven’t listened to for a while.
Less than fair play (again) with saving Sinner.
My sleep patterns are all fucked up these days, more often than not I find myself waking up at like 1:00AM seemingly ready to go. Problem is, I don’t leave for work until 5:45AM. Insomnia is a bitch. Doctor put me on 100mg of Trazadone but that seems to only help me fall asleep quicker, nothing has really helped the waking up in the middle of the night thing. Have a home sleep study scheduled for the 2nd, maybe I will learn something then. If you can sleep 6-8 hours uninterrupted enjoy it, because I certainly miss it.
What time of day were you born, JR?
I was hatched around 8:00PM and gravitate to staying up all night . . . when not on some-one-else’s-schedule . . .
About 9:00AM if I remember what my mother told me.
We’ll I finally did it. I didn’t wait until the blade had stopped and tried removing a small piece of wood from the table saw. I wasn’t watching where my thumb was and put a nasty cut lengthwise in the end. Fortunately it was a thin kerf blade and I didn’t hit any bone or tendons. So, lots of stitches, antibiotics and pain meds.
Ouch! Glad you didn’t loose a thumb - wishing you a quick recovery.
Ouch again! I’ve gotten into that bad habit too. Been lucky so far. From now on, I think I am going to always wait until the blade completely stops!
Apologies, @ron_e, I hit the wrong reaction button - glad you didn’t do any more serious damage.
I also damaged a thumb - by peeling an orange - not pleasant. No stitches, but emergency plastic surgery, IV antibiotics and a long healing process.
Rest up
Geoff
Damn, that’s crazy. You weren’t trying to peel the orange with your table saw were you?
No; I’ve always used my right thumbnail to start off peeling an orange.
That time, I didn’t know that the orange had two nasty bacteria with long names on its surface. Two days later, a black spot appeared under the nail, as I must have split the skin and the nasties got in there. It then got larger and the thumb swelled up like a huge blister. The doctor took one look and said ‘off to hospital with you’.
I could have lost the thumb, or worse, lesson learnt.
A trivial detail: the hospital was “Cabrini”, same name as JR’s speakers.
Years ago I clipped my left thumb on a table saw, chipped the bone. I felt that all the way to my little toes. They couldn’t stitch anything because it cut a perfect dado in the top of my thumb. They just pushed it together and wrapped it tight.
Glad it wasn’t worse, Ron.
I have small scars across the pad of my left thumb from high school shop class. I don’t wanna talk about it.
I hope you heal quick and true. Here’s to being lucky. ![]()
I feel for you, Ron!! It looks like it’s your left thumb - I’m hoping you are right-handed. You might remember I did something similar to my right thumb about 15 years ago. The pain wasn’t too bad, but the loss of dexterity was.
Thanks for the safety reminder to us all! Hope you have a complete recovery, Ron.
