how fast is it? I had gone one a couple of years back, it took 30 mins to make a few psi change in the tire pressure. tested it for just topping off the car tire, no puncture or anything. Made a lot of noise and took way too long… it got returned ![]()
Well, in addition to the new carb and all that will involve, I bought a shift kit for the old truck. Have never been happy with how it shifts, so figured what the hell. If I get the fuel issue figured out, and get the transmission more fun to drive I will drive it to my real mechanic and have him rebuild and regear the rear end. Currently has 3.08, want to go to 3.42.
I picked up a used Sears 12V inflator at my local Re-store for $2. Got it home, hooked it up to my bench top power supply and discovered that it could not develop pressure at the nozzle. Took it apart and discovered that the small 1/4" ID hose between the pump and air pressure gauge had broken off. So I replaced the broken hose with some high pressure (133psi) stuff (fuel line) and now it works good. Tested it on my car. It is kind of slow, but works good. I can pump each tire up from about 30psi to 38psi in about 5 minutes. A completely flat tire would probably take about 10 to 15 minutes. The motor draws over 5 amps from the battery during operation and it makes a moderate amount of pumping noise. But it is not too bad. I lubed the pump piston sleeve and crank shaft bearing with new grease when I had it apart.
Air pumps IMO are rediculously overpriced for what is in them. I spent $70 on a unit that I’m pretty sure melted internal plastic pieces after topping off all 4 tires on the truck. It worked when put away, never worked again after (runs but no pressure). I saw Menards had some cheapos for $12 in their “online only deals” section.. So I ordered 4x and threw one in each vehicle for emergencies. One already popped itself trying to get a spare tire back up to 60psi. But I’ve used the rest a few times at lower pressures and just be sure to run them for a couple minutes off the tire to cool the internals back off enough to not melt itself.
These new battery tire inflators are nice. No cord to fight with and you program the pressure you want and it shuts off when you get to the programmed pressure. They arent fast byr so easy to use.
23 pounds is small mileage savings for you, but tremendous savings toward CAFE–corporate average fuel economy.
I just came across the ‘secondipity’ resellers site: including power tools
Sirens just went off here in CR. Nothing confirmed on the ground, but we’re in the basement.
Stay safe, Tom!
Take cover, Maynard! Tornado reported on the ground near Washington (Iowa).
Stay safe guys. Just a little windy and cool here.
Be safe guys !!
What a wild ride. Somehow, no fatalities in WI. How are ya’ll?
There’s a small town about an hour west of Green Bay, called Ringle. Tiny little township, but with a club in the old grade school gymnasium. About 10 years ago, Black Stone Cherry was inexplicably playing there, and a good friend of mine is a HUGE fan and wanted to go and make it a couples event. Guess we’re driving to the middle of nowhere. LOL
The ceiling was all gorgeous exposed timbers, with a nice slope. Almost churchlike. And it gave us one of the best live shows we’ve ever seen.
It’s gone now.
We got lucky. Just dark, rainy, & windy here in CR on Friday.
That’s sad. Mother nature can be a cruel bitch.
Totally!
Back in the mid nineties after totalling my first car, an 86 Cavalier, I was in need of another ride… cheap. A friend of a friend’s dad fixed cars to sell. He just finished an 86 Cavalier (go figure!) Had a brand new paint job in black cherry red on it. I was able to work out a deal and had an even nicer Cav than before.
Two weeks later one of the biggest hail storms to hit Louisville happened. I was in the top floor of an apartment, by myself, and thought this is the end. It sounded like a train was running on top of the place, it was so fucking loud!!
After it ended and everyone started coming outside. There was about a foot of golf ball sized hail covering the ground, unreal. This happened in the evening, so I didn’t get to see what had actually happened to my car till the next morning.
So yeah, devastated. I just spent everything I had to buy that car and it was demolished. Sad sad day. Luckily the windshield was the only window broken, which is free replacement in Kentucky. But everything else…![]()
I slowly starting fixing small dents myself and saving up to buy a hood, a grill, and trunk lid. Eventually could afford to have the roof fixed. Then eventually an El Cheapo paint job. It took me well over a year to finally get that car back into shape. Had to replace the engine in it during all of that, another feat in itself.
She was quite the looker for being an ol 86 Cavalier..
We had 4 tornados touch down pretty close to here. Town of Lena (~ 30 miles away) got clobbered! We had to retreat to the basement 3 times last week. A coworker had baseball sized hail at his place. One went through his wife’s new car windshield.
My first car was an 87 Cav 4door. Interesting….
Mother Nature has a way of showing us who’s really in charge!
One of my coworkers in Cedar Falls had her car totaled in a hail storm last week. She had run into the office to grab a few things and left her dog in the car. Dog is fine, but I’ll bet it has a case of PTSD.
Yup, wife’s EX35 got it last year while she was at work. Insurance totalled it, but we kept it. Had a buddy that does paintless dent repair work out 90% of the damage for $3K. I got some estimates and they were $8-12K
Stupid.
