Yes the heat is coming in today. Meanwhile a friend in Amsterdam just had a day where it hit 104 and almost no one has AC. It was mid 90’s in her apartment.

Edit: Average June high temp in Amsterdam is 68-70 degrees.

Gonna be 90s here this week.

In Salzburg now and it’s almost 100. We arrived in Europe just in time for the heatwave…

I did setup the Rega and Adam monitors the host had in a cabinet.

I ordered a Vevor ultrasonic cleaner from Amazon and while I was unpacking it I could hear something floating around inside. I opened it up and found the fan blade laying inside. It appears that it is held in by its magnet. I’ve never seen a fan you could just pull the blade out of. I put it back in and it runs fine.

I bought the cleaner to clean sawblades with and it seems to work pretty well.

What are you using for a solvent Ron?

Be careful, ultrasonics can “tear” steal surfaces this is probably why some of the red coating came off the blade.

If your vevor is the same as the one we have at work the frequency is probably not adjustable but if you can try the different frequencies to see what gets the blade clean without the damage to the finish.

Ultrasonics are pretty xlinteresting, they can rip chrome off steal.

The blade had been resharpened so the paint was already damaged. The cleaner did make it worse. It did a very nice job of cleaning up a 1980’s vintage digital watch band. It didn’t do the labels behind the crystal any favors. It didn’t destroy them but the panel they were printed on came loose in spots so I need to figure out to at reattach it without gumming things up.

Hot tap water and Dawn detergent.

DQ-10s update

Finally done with these guys. Instead of the Visaton tweeters, I went through my stash and found I have a set of Vifa BC25’s in 4 ohm. They were same SPL, so I mocked one up and it sounded fine. I proceeded to modify the tweeter baffles to house the Vifas. After all was said and done I can say these are now listenable again. Obviously there’s no baffle step comp, so they are a little bright sounding, but over all…not bad. For being a 5way surprised how well everything integrated. Serial crossover magic for sure.

I’m not the only one who has seen some wild, circuitous routes to my door lately, but this one is quite bazaar. Again, I probably could have waved as it went by, but is this even possible?

I’m not writing it off as lost yet, but I’d guess that there’s maybe a 50% chance this is accurate.

Anyone else having logistics issues as of late ? Ive had to cancel / refund two amazon purchases in the last month ( no show or lost ). Previously , its been pretty solid. Boss had a package coming from Mn and was routed damn near out to the east coast for delivery in the neighboring state of SD ?

Here’s a doozy of a ride for a CD I bought on Amazon. Carrier was USPS this time too, but FedEx, AMZ & UPS are not immune.

Ok, DQ-10s done and returned. Next I was given some Polk Monitor 10A speakers. Customer complaint : Needs recapped. :man_facepalming:t2:

Shop owner wants the magnets JB Welded. Apparently these woofers have a tendency of the magnets coming loose and pinching the voice coil. Fix is JBW around the back plate to magnet and front plate to magnet. Possibility the top plate to frame too.

Quick listen, these sound really good! Not bad, if I had to nit pick, little chesty on vocals, but yeah, I could dig these.

Those are much flatter than I would have imagined. But I do remember listening to some in that series back in the day and thought they sounded really good.

These were given to me by a homebrew club member last night. What would you do? I have not yet listened to them. I think I would like to give them away, regift them. Anyone?

I could bring them to PE SDC

Polk made some interesting / unique speakers, and imo sounded pretty good.

you should give them a listen some of these old CV were suprisingly good.

OK. I don’t want to say anything bad about them, but I am listening to them right now and they need someone to adopt them.
