Ooooopsies.
Had to take almost 12DB off the mids. But they are sounding much better. I put a 150 uf electrolytic on the mids and it sounded bad. I am quite pleased that I could even hear the difference. I suck at three ways even less now then when I first admitted that I sucked less then I first did.
The polars are still a mess because of my poorly decided tweeter placement
They were taken in 30 degree increments plus and minus 90 Horizontal of corse.
Sh@t happens
I have noticed a discrepancy in what I observe and what I want.
I punched your latest topology into VCAD and got this. I tweaked your L-pads and woofer parts just a tad to flatten it out a little bit more. Don’t know if this is going in the right or wrong direction from a listening perspective, however.
Thanks, I’ll give it a try
Based on this picture, it looks like I need to revise the diffraction model in VCAD. Both the woofs AND the mids appear to be radiating into 2pi space, not just the woofs. I’ll make the change in my VCAD model and see what happens to the squigglies.
Revised TV Speaker midrange diffraction model attached. I mounted the midranges on the surface of a large 3000x3000mm panel because, in the picture, they are essentially mounted in the wall and radiating into 2pi space.
After the merger, the overall modelled FR is essentially the same above 500Hz. Below 500Hz, the response bounces up and down a little bit more. Makes me wonder why we are using a 10000mm distance to set up the diffraction model instead of something much more reasonable, like 2500mm.
Five years ago I carelessly set my shop on fire. I messed up. Poor house keeping, Carelessness. Poor design. I knew all these things but I was comfortable and I was providing, so it happened and during the rebuilding I had already been doing speakers and I thought why not optimize a room for sound
Mic distance 2.5 min. times the baffle width?
2.5x the baffle width would only be about 12" (300mm). I’d probably want to boost this to at least 1 meter for far field measurements. This would be roughly 2.5x the distance between the mids and woofs and would be entered in the far field section of the diffraction model. The 10000mm distance (about 32 feet) is only entered in the near field section. I was thinking that perhaps 2500mm (about 8 feet) would be better since this is the typical listening distance.
