2026 ohio speaker design competition

I photoshopped a side-by-side comparison of Tim’s @traw “Seas Spendy” speakers to his InDIYana “Old English” speakers. Looks like you swapped out tweeters between events. Is that the Seas Excel T27GL001 DXT (E0102) Custom Glass DXT Dome Tweeter? I didn’t hear them (was out in the staging area talking) but I bet they sounded really good.

Here is a final batch of speakers at the event. I didn’t hear most of these or see the presentations because I was out in the staging area talking to my brother, Mike. I hadn’t seen him in several years, so it was kind of like a small family reunion of sorts. He also builds speakers, but he didn’t bring anything to enter. Maybe next year.

I kinda wondered if that was your brother sitting by you, Bill. I asked my wife if you guys looked like brothers, she said no.

Yes, very clear and transparent treble!

Lol. This year I said NO to providing more info and having the speakers featured at all… I was still pretty anoyed at the time about not being able to pickup orders. So there is very little evidence of my speakers even being there.

Yeah as soon as I mentioned they were ‘review samples’ people blurted, ah from Vance heh. So was about 50% price, debating if sell off the SS Be that got second hand at reasonable ish price compared to new cost. Figure that out in the fall. The glass DXT’s not look special on paper and just so damn expensive that they get criticized. But unique detailed natural sound, I’m sucker for wanting to hear diff materials.

Not super low Fs but seemed had sharp acoustic rolloff making able to get them down to 2150 or so easily. 3rd order electrical with RC for tiny bit of upper lift. The mild waveguide of the dxt got rid of wastebanding (bunching 2-3K) that had with the SS Be’s, perhaps more work to have been done but these are now final speakers and been my daily drivers in home office (work remote).

These graphene coated woofers, also painful price and again second hand from canadain, dig deep. I have no urge to pop subwoofer on in the office. Crossover on woofer was messier for final iteration, 3rd order electrical and 2 series shunt notches for lumpiness around 800 and 1200. Often hard for me to get 3rd order electrical to sound right to me since less blended - or at least that what stuck in head from past experiences.

Been taking break from building finally and focusing on health and projects around the house - my wife is like thank god heh.

Both of your entries sounded great, Tim, and I feel are your best work I’ve heard thus far.

Anyone else get their judging sheets today? Should we start another thread for posting them?

Have not checked mail yet. I’m fine with this one if you are.

My judges comments seemed appropriate. The not a rockets got two 47’s and a 51

Javad and Jerry seemed to like them a bit more than Andrew. I should invite them over to my place for a proper listen.:face_with_tongue:

I was told that the Judges will send me a email to let me know what they found wrong with my system. When will that email come. Or was I giving wrong information.

This event has had judges’ impression feedback sheets since the judging started back in 2008. They mail them to you.

Eric posted his above. These below are from my 2 pair:

Sorry for the misprint on the sign up sheet. D’s it was to be. I put them on the speakers as well.

Thanks for catching that.

Apparently it takes another week for the mail to get to Canada, here are my score sheets for 2nd place in over $300, under 2000^3.

Looks like I am going to have to up my game for next year!

I don’t understand the two 7’s for craftmanship, but that’s how it goes I guess.

Looks great in pictures and I imagine gorgeous in real life, unless they lost points for being a box!

Would love to see and hear these. Maybe Indy?

Javad gets what DIY craftmanship is all about.
