Just a nice, clean tweeter. Once I got it flattened out, anyways.
Sitting here voicing this 10" 3-way and it is obvious our demo music is a metric fuckton more challenging than anything we heard in the rooms at Axpona.
I don’t think anyone is trying to challenge their speakers at AXPONA, it’s more about drawing people into the room and making an impression. Not unlike super bright TVs on display. My guess it’s the reason some speakers are voiced so hot.
Sorry for interrupting your thread JR.
Here I sit listening to them. I think I like current crossover. I’ll know more in another hour or so. Have company coming over tonight, so will have to put shit away. They do not see the beauty in a floor full of components.
I should add I am miles away from the sim I posted. It happens. I believe the woofer network is the same, though. I am currently listening to a version of the XO that is the result of my voicing. I did receive a thumbs up from Mrs. JR.
Typically for my 3 ways, the woofer LP is close to the sim, but the midrange needs a lot of tweaking. I need to learn VituixCad, which should be closer to real world.
This is what my manual voicing leaves me with. Not sure I like how high the tweeter is crossed, but at ten feet away it sounds very smooth and balanced.
I’m going to listen for awhile to see if anything stands out.
Made a couple more changes, but have not measured things yet. I doubt much has changed.
Current iteration is pretty nice. Here is distortion measured at 1M, SPL accurate. Plenty loud, plenty clean. Can definitely see that the Signature motor is not as advanced as the mid or the tweet.
On axis and reverse nulls.
I’m thinking of calling this one done.
DM 7600 distortion is very good!
Yes, and the Melo-David tweeter is not measureable in my room! Very clean design.
Was the nosedive real to 70dB at 20k as shown earlier, or do you mean your noise floor isn’t low enough?
My noise floor isn’t low enough.
The phase issue at 8-9k bother you? Is something from the mid still poking through?
I’m not too worried about that little bit.
Nice! Those came together fairly quick. Any special color choice for these?
Probably Duratex.
