I’m a bit jealous…

Love me some Weezer! Self-titled blue album was great, and most everyone could agree it was a good album. It came out my senior year of high school.

Silversun Pickups IMO was something I found on a late night talk show one night, and they have maybe 1 song that was radio worthy and played enough to know. That song kinda does nothing for awhile, then amps up nicely albeit briefly, and back to finish as it started. The guitarist is more into wall of sound ambient effects and massive echo and reverb than some others.

I actually have both of the albums above. Glad you both had a good time!

My wife and I are taking our daughter to see Weird Al next Thursday. Chuck and his boy got seats right behind us and are also going. I’ll report back post-op.

Silversun Pickups:

I’ve seen Silversum Pickups twice in concert. Asking AI it was likely at The Aragon in Chicago and Hard Rock Live in Orlando, both in 2010. Yikes, 16 years ago.

That bass player lady came out and sang on two songs with Weezer. She was wearing flats but was still 6 inches taller than Rivers Cuomo.

Rivers on the Jombotron

Had to be about that long ago they were on that late night show…

Back when I saw Weird Al, he was doing the whole costume changes for each song, was a great show! I’m not sure if he still does that now, but will still be a fantastic time. Such underrated talent in his band. Love me some Weird Al:sign_of_the_horns:t3:

One of the more recent faves of mine is “Word Crimes”. Classics like Yoda, Fat, UHF, etc. My daughter really likes “The Saga Begins…”, White and Nerdy, Tacky, etc. The polka medleys are special too.

For some reason “Mission Statement” does it for me.

We have our annual “V8 Supercar” 1,000km race at Mount Panorama, Bathurst (NSW) this weekend.

One of the most spectacular and hazardous tracks in the world and worth a look if you’re a fan of those monsters: modified Camaros, Mustangs and Toyota GR Supras. Lap record is 2m 4s.

The race started at Bathurst in 1963 as purely a race for stock saloon cars with few safety features, no trackside barriers and really mixed fields. The first three races were won by Ford Cortina GTs and the 1966 race was won by a Mini Cooper. Lap record for that race was 3m 10s.

The first ten laps or so are always exciting but it can get a bit dull after a while. Still, well worth an optic.

Here are some highlights of the 1971 race, won by the legendary “Falcon XY GT-HO”: at the time, the fastest four door production car in the world. You could walk into the showroom the next day and buy one - although not race prepared - for about A$4,500, IIRC.

Of 300 made, few genuine examples survive but good examples will fetch anything from A$500k to A$1m.

PS to the post above, this year’s race had an amazing finish, with the leader running out of fuel on the very last lap. The Toyotas didn’t do as well as expected, unfortunately; would have made for a more interesting race.

Interesting Westlake monitor restoration thread -

It’s a fun track in Gran Turismo 7 on PS5! Definitely one of the more challenging tracks.

The track is actually part of the public road network, albeit with better safety features.

You can drive around it any time when it’s not being used for racing or track days; parts of it are even scary at normal speeds, which I’ve done once. It’s frightening that the track is also used for motorcycles and open wheel formula cars, it’s scary enough in sedans.

Plenty of drivers think they’re the late Peter Brock and put their foot down on Conrod Straight, only to find police at the other end.

Ha! No doubt it’d be cool to drive it. Have you?

The downhill run from uptop is so cool:sign_of_the_horns:t3:

This isn’t really “Off Topic” because it is a speaker design, but I wanted to post it (saw the link on diyaudio com). An open source Troels build using Dayton Audio drivers.

I have all these drivers and am tempted to build one just to take a thorough suite of measurements.

I drove the course in our Subaru Outback some years ago, I should have done it in our MX-5 Miata but we were on holiday and had to take dogs, etc. It was fun, but even at legal speeds, the downhill section was scary. The course has various hazards, including kangaroos.

There’s a racing museum on site with various interesting racing cars and bikes, including a Vincent Black Lightning, a rare beast. Apart from the course, Bathurst isn’t really a very interesting place to visit, with a harsh inland climate.

Just received my copy of The Beatles’ ‘Rubber Soul’ 2CD edition in the post.

A nice new mix which brings out the rhythm section and background vocals more than previous releases, but it’s still the same great album. ‘Drive My Car’ has real punch. Good booklet too.

The 2023 ‘red album’ mixes of ‘Day Tripper’ and ‘We Can Work it Out’ are included on the extra disc, which has some interesting outtakes and rehearsals. However, listening to just the backing tracks sheds some light on John’s later comments about the music being a little stilted, or words to that effect.

As with ‘Revolver’, I just wish Apple would have put the mono mix on the CD, there’s plenty of room.

Finally made it home from Iowa DIY. Our youngest came to the rescue and trailered my car home. The damage was worse than we originally thought. I’ll be getting a new engine (with a warranty) in a week or so. That will still be MUCH cheaper than buying a used SUV that would probably have more miles than my Santa Fe does. Sadly, my son dropped me off at home and then his Duramax lost an injector on the way to drop the car at the shop. Then I found out his furnace went out on Friday too! Like father, like son…
