Good thing they use balsa wood in the construction- keeps each (of the 3) blades under 23,100 lbs ![]()
TPI Composites, headquartered just a brisk walk south of the DIY IA site, claims to have made the worldâs largest 3D-printed windmill blade. No idea if it incorporates wood, that thatâs all the trivia I got.
3D printed wind turbine blades - thatâs crazy talk!
Next youâll be telling me a loudspeaker cabinet could be 3D printed.
For those of you with a media streaming PC , I have an older mini PC thats collecting dust and would like to put it to use . Been thinking of wiping windows 10 off it and using it as a media streaming PC . Was looking at option on what to install on it and came across Volumio and Daphile. Do any of you have experience with either of these two options? Or maybe another free OS option that I should look at?
Thanks
Thatâs gonna make going back to a Santa Fe really hard! Good luckâ![]()
Nah⌠How do you pack tower speakers into that tiny thing?
No man with a fast car has to be justified!
I wish it were mine! Itâs my step sonâs latest purchase. He found it at a dealership in Michigan, flew out there and picked it up last Wednesday. Heâs driving it back to Tehachapi. He did give me a memorable ride this morning to pick up my actual rental car. I thought I was going to pass out when he punched it getting on the interstate. The rental is a Hyundai TucsonâŚnot quite as much fun.
But youâll have your insurance and license intact much longerâŚ
Well, it has to be more practical than a friendâs Alfa P4: the alleged âbootâ is just large enough to hold the flimsy and small folding roof. It wonât even hold a case of wine when you have the roof on!
And if you run over a cigarette end, your teeth rattleâŚnot quite, but it has almost no suspension travel. Looks cool, but.

Maybe it has wheels, but yeah, I bet the suspension sucks!
My mistake, itâs a 4C, of course; I need my coffee.
Iâd rather have the pizza oven
Ok⌠now THAT Iâd be interested in!
As far as dealing with performance road-going vehicles.. My best personal experience is with motorcylces. So I bet that has got to be easier to live with than 2 wheels.
The first thing I thought when I saw Tomâs driverway photo was âIf that is a rental, then what is the insurance liability in the event of an accident?â I donât carry collision on my vehicles, because they are very low value. So I would be liable for the entire cost of a rental like that. ![]()
I had a ride in it a while ago, truly scary: youâre about two inches off the ground, the turbo engine screams behind your ear and thereâs no rear vision. Itâs noisy and extremely quick; the chassis is carbon fibre and weighs 65kg (about 140lbs). Power to weight is mental.
He also has a Morgan Plus 8 replica, also scary; a 1928 supercharged racing spec Austin 7 and a four wheel drive Porsche 911 Carrera. Plus a 1973 Rolls Royce Corniche when he wants something sedate!
His everyday driver is a Subaru Forester turbo; I guess you could call him a car fanatic.
Geoff
Thatâs probably true! I hadnât gotten a speeding ticket in over 30 years. Then I bought my FJR1300 and got tagged by the cameras on the interstate. They say those arenât reported to insurance, but Iâm not sure I believe them with all the data âsharingâ these days.
Fun with simplified (2d) nuclear physics.. Early access to a game called âNuclear Design Bureauâ:
Above is a 2-stage device I called âPop Gunâ (about 1 microsecond into disassembly). It is pretty dang fun to mess about with little tweaks to boost yield.
I assume most members like making playlists and/or compilation CDs; Iâve made dozens and probably driven people mad with my choices. Cover versions, alternate Beatles albums, Oz music collections etc etc.
There is one 2 x CD collection I play quite a lot: one I made for various people in our street when we were âlocked downâ for many weeks during COVID: I called it âThe Anti-Virus Collectionâ. A collection of pop stuff which would, I thought, appeal to most people.
It includes Beatles, ABBA, Monty Python, James Brown, Madness, The Who, Blues Brothers, Daddy Cool, Dylan, Diana Krall and many other artists. I attach a Word document of the track listing if anyoneâs interested, it would take up too much space to just paste it in this post.

Okay, Weird Al was Thursday last week. Puddles Pity Party opened. Chuck and his boy Tyler sat in the row behind my family.
Puddles was a grotesque style clown, and had a âcry-camâ for crowd participation, as well as bringing up a couple audience members. He also had strange imagery on the screen, and sang âgive em pumpkin to talk about.â among others.
Weird Al opened with Tacky, walking the exterior corridor outside the arena, then came in right in front of us through the side entrance.
Finish with a double encor of The Saga Begins and Yoda. Storm Troopers, R2D2, and Vader were present. My daughter loves these 2, and sang every word.
Yes, costume changes galore, and extra content between songs of interviews, faux or real, and other things he had contributed to over the years.
