CA$156.40 at Solen. YIKES!
They are currently $109 at PE.
CA$156 = USD 111 so that seems about right.
So the current product page does say âSALE PRICEâ, which makes sense. If they stay on sale through Black Friday, Iâll probably get another pair (to sit on my shelf and keep all of my other unused drivers company).
Oh well, reduced price for a little while.
DATS LA is on sale for $500 - so I bought it. I am a sucker for tools. I need no drivers, so thought what the hell. Give me something to do this winter.
JR, can you pls elaborate how you are going to use if or what it brings over the old dats? I have looked at it, but couldnât justify the price. i have been âlimpingâ around with the old DATS V2 and also have a Limp jig, where an amp can be added.
it says âUtilizes a patented technique for measuring loudspeaker non-linearity and asymmetry through multiple DC biased sweepsâ Not sure what it means
Also, is the 100watt good enough - do the driver need to be driven harder for the large signal parameters?
These two changes seem to standout.
My experience with the DATS LA has beenâŚa tad frustrating. Out of the box it seemed to work well and Iâd say 100 watts was more than sufficient for the drivers I tried (nothing bigger than a 7-8â midwoofer. If you donât have a kit of sticky tack and a scale the one PE suggests works fine. I have a huge stack of unused PR weights that work well with that.
That said, a few days after I had it the DC bias light lit up so I tried to calibrate it using a multimeter and tiny screwdriver, using the methods they suggestâŚI could not calibrate to the numbers they claim I should. Worse, VAS now measures about 1/1000 it ought to. I keep meaning to do something about it and have an open ticket with PE but have not responded to the somewhat generic suggestions they provided. Maybe Iâll do that today.
As far as use cases goâŚmy initial thought was to use it to better select âmatched pairsâ. From my experience though, a simple impedance sweep pretty much captures that difference already. I still think itâs a fun and interesting tool (when working) and would love to try it on some larger subwoofers to see how it handles them. They keep adding and refining a few software features as well.
Thanks for the insight Danny. The outlay is quite significnat and is worth the one click and ease of use over fudging with multiple tools/sw.
Would be interested to know how it fares with larger Subs. One thing i am missing is the large signal parameters, but it is sort of covered by the limp jig with amp - just not as fance or integrated as this. The DC bias thing might be useful and there might be other things in the SW features.
Mitutoyo caliper on sale. I really like mine.https://www.travers.com/product/mitutoyo-500-196-30-electronic-digital-caliper-57-016-342
This thing is fun, and according to this thing looks like the Aerial 10â buyout subwoofer has a lot of xmax.
Wow, it calcs Xmax? Pretty cool.
Apparently. I do not know how close it tracks something like Klippel, but its pretty cool.
According to Bryan Myers, they compared the LA to Klippel while under development, and it tracked really closely.
Good to know!
I feel like last year they had a good sale and ~14% off on top of that?
Iâm waiting on Madisound
